Born María de los Dolores Flores Ruíz, Lola Flores became a famous dancer and singer of Andalusian folklore at a very young age, featuring in films from 1939 to 1987. Her greatest success was in folklore shows with Manolo Caracol, who was her artistic partner until 1951.
In 1958 she married Antonio González el Pescaílla, a guitarist. She had three children: Dolores (singer and actress Lolita Flores); rock musician, singer and actor Antonio Flores; and singer and actress Rosario Flores.
Lola Flores died of cancer in 1995, aged 72, and was interred in the Cementerio de la Almudena in Madrid. Shortly after her death, her distraught 34-year-old son died of a drug overdose and was buried near her.

Conservo el calor
Que me hace sentir
Conservo tu amor
Tan dentro de mi
Que hoy puedo vivir
Muriendo de amor
Viviendo por ti
Como busca el marino su puerto y su hogar
He buscado en mi alma queriéndote hallar
Y tan solo encontré mi soledad
A pesar de estar lejos muy lejos de mi
A pesar de otros besos que te hagan feliz
He buscado en mi alma de aquel viejo amor
Que aun
Te acuerdes de mi
Y aun recuerdo aquel ayer
Cuando estaba junto a mi
Que me hablaba del amor
Y aun podía yo vivir
Y aun recuerdo aquel amor
Y ahora te alejas de mi
Le he pedido al silencio que me hable de ti
Y he vagado en la noche queriéndote oír
Y al ruido del viento le he oído decir
Tu nombre Gwendolyne.
Y aun recuerdo aquel ayer
Cuando estaba junto a mi
Que me hablaba del amor
Y aun podía yo reír
Y aun recuerdo aquel amor
Y ahora te alejas de mi
Y aun recuerdo aquel ayer
Cuando estaba junto a mi
Que me hablaba del amor
Y aun podía yo reír
Y aun recuerdo aquel ayer
Y ahora tú te alejas de mi
Adiós...
Lola Flores's song "Gwendolyne" is a heartfelt tale of a love that is still burning strong within the singer's heart, even though her lover has left her. The lyrics speak about the warmth that she feels inside, preserving the love that she once shared with the person who has since gone. She has searched her soul for her lost love but has found nothing but her own loneliness. The song reflects on how love can be so intense that it can make a person feel as though they are dying for it, but at the same time, it gives them the strength to live through it. The metaphor of the waves searching for the shore and the sailor seeking his home is used to describe her search for her lost love. The chorus describes her longing for her former love, Gwendolyne, and how their love used to make her feel alive. The song ends with a sad goodbye, indicating that the singer is accepting that her love is gone.
Lola Flores's "Gwendolyne" was released in 1967, and it was one of the most successful songs of her career. The song was written by Julio Iglesias, who was still an unknown artist at the time, and it quickly became a hit in Spain and Latin America. It has since been covered by several other artists, including Plácido Domingo and Julio Iglesias himself.
