Their first hit was Veni Raquel, which set the tone for their later lyrics' irreverence and ironic humor. Many of their songs are classic anthems of Argentinian nightlife, such as Corazón, Loco (Tu Forma de Ser), Entregá el Marrón, La Guitarra, Los Piratas, and El Murguero.
For some of their hit songs and videos, the Decandentes have engaged many Argentine icons such as former soccer referee Guillermo Nimo and the later candombe singer Alberto Castillo. They are popular with many generations as they draw from traditions such as canzonetta, murga bands, and cantina songs.

Los Auténticos Decadentes Lyrics

Una lampara encontre
Yo le dije a mi camello
Pará un poco, vamo' a ver
Enterrada en la arena
Estaba ahí esperandome
Un oasis de ilusiones
Que apagara esta sed
A la lampara froté
Con un genio me encontré
Y me hizo un gesto extraño
Que no pude comprender
Hace miles de años
Que estoy esperándote
En esta maldita lampara
Sin ver una mujer
Si querés los tres deseos
Yo te los concederé
Pero esto no es tan fácil
Yo algo a cambio pediré
Yo le pedí que me de
Un tesoro y un harem
Y el cantando me decía
Lo que nunca imaginé
Ojala, ojala,
Ojala melamamara
Ojala, ojala,
Ojala melamamara
El me dio lo que pedi
Yo despues me arrepenti
Porque este genio trolo
No me para de decir
Ojala, ojala
Ojala melamamara
Ojala, ojala
Ojala melamamara
The first stanza of Los Auténticos Decadentes's song "Ojala" describes an imaginary journey where the singer, while crossing the desert on a camel, discovers a lamp buried in the sand. Excited by the possibility of finding treasure or salvation in the harsh desert terrain, the singer rubs the lamp and summons a genie. The genie offers to grant the singer three wishes in exchange for something to be paid later. The second stanza reveals the genie's solicitude for a woman's company, which he has been deprived of for thousands of years while confined in the lamp. He promises to grant the singer's wishes but expresses his desire for a sensual encounter with someone named Melamamara.
The chorus of "Ojala" repeats the genie's plea for Melamamara's presence, suggesting that the singer's wishes might not come to fruition unless the genie's wish is granted. The third stanza finds the singer regretting his decision to satisfy his greed with material possessions and sexual gratification by calling out for Melamamara in unison with the genie. The song ends with the chorus's repetition, accompanied by the sound of a man's voice moaning in pleasure, implying that the singer, knowingly or not, has paid the genie's price by sacrificing his masculine pride.
