On November 24, 2011 Hirsch committed suicide, by jumping from a window at Wilhelminenspital, a major hospital in Vienna. He was 65.

Danke, gerade dieses Stück suche ich schon jahrelang. Ludwig war schon ein besonderer Mensch, schade um die vielen Lieder die er nicht mehr schreiben konnte.

Er fand die Worte für Unsagbares.
Auch wenn sie manchmal schwer zu verstehen sind, kommen sie doch meist tief aus dem schwarzen Abgrund meiner eigenen Seele oder Gedanken. Dort waren sie verborgen oder verloren. Wie hat er die da nur gefunden?
