The opening lines indicate that the singer has been experiencing this emotional turmoil for an extended period, to the point that it’s foreign and unsettling to feel any other way, which is why it scares them. The voices that the singer hears are likely intrusive thoughts that feed into their mental health issues. They struggle with feelings of inadequacy, believing that they are nothing and lacking both a heart and a soul. The next line implies that the singer has tried to use drugs to escape or mask their problems, but they no longer provide relief. Interestingly, M.I.K.E has said that "Remember This" was heavily influenced by the story of the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer, who killed 17 people and dismembered and ate some of his victims, reportedly had an obsession with zombies and thought about creating a "real-life" creature by drilling holes into someone's head and pouring in acid. M.I.K.E. said that he was intrigued by the psychological factors that caused Dahmer to act the way he did and this influenced the song's dark lyrics.
