Help Me
Maas Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You wouldn't believe all the things I've seen
Who should I be? The sounds stifle me
To feed in fear, try penetration here
[Chorus]
Help me, help me
Help me, help me
The realest part is my reflection's clear
I know its crazy but the end is near
We're all alone, and judgments will reveal
Deep coat cause some will have eternity
[Chorus]
This is just my destiny so come with me [Repeat: x4]
[Chorus]
The lyrics of Maas's song "Help Me" delve into the inner turmoil and darkness that the singer carries within them. The opening line, "There's an awful world inside of me," sets the tone for the song, suggesting a hidden and troubling side of the singer's existence. The line "You wouldn't believe all the things I've seen" hints at the intensity and depth of the singer's experiences, suggesting a past filled with disturbing moments that have shaped their perspective.
The question of identity emerges with the line "Who should I be? The sounds stifle me." Here, the singer seems to be grappling with the pressure to conform and fit into societal expectations, leading to a stifling of their true self. The reference to "penetration" suggests the urge to break free from this stifling environment and find a sense of liberation or authenticity.
The chorus, consisting of the plea "Help me, help me," repeats throughout the song, emphasizing the singer's desperation to escape their internal struggles. The line "The realest part is my reflection's clear" suggests a self-awareness, despite the difficulties faced, while acknowledging the impending sense of doom with the phrase "the end is near."
The line "We're all alone, and judgments will reveal" highlights the profound loneliness experienced by the singer, accompanied by the inevitability of being judged by others. The mention of a "deep coat" could refer to a protective layer that some people wear, hiding their true selves in order to conform and avoid judgment, potentially leading to an eternity of falsehood.
Overall, "Help Me" reflects the complex emotions and internal conflicts faced by the singer, grappling with their identity, isolation, and an impending sense of doom.

Same. Used to spin it all the time. I had the CD too. I used to listen to it constantly when I was driving around in my very first car. It blows my mind that I forgot about this track. I must have listened to it almost every day for a year.
