Born and raised in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing as a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in the rock bands Breakfast Club and Emmy, she rose to solo stardom with her debut studio album, Madonna (1983). She followed it with a series of successful albums, including all-time bestsellers Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986) as well as Grammy Award winners Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Madonna has amassed many number-one singles throughout her career, including "Like a Virgin", "La Isla Bonita", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Take a Bow", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes".
Madonna's popularity was enhanced by roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992), and Evita (1996). While Evita won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, many of her other films received poor reviews. As a businesswoman, Madonna founded the company Maverick in 1992; it included Maverick Records, one of the most successful artist-run labels in history. Her other ventures include fashion brands, children's books, health clubs, and filmmaking. She contributes to various charities, having founded the Ray of Light Foundation in 1998 and Raising Malawi in 2006.
With sales of over 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is certified as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. She is the most successful solo artist in the history of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and holds the record for the most number-one singles by a female artist in Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. With a revenue of U.S. $1.5 billion from her concert tickets, she remains the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time. Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, her first year of eligibility. She was ranked as the greatest woman in music by VH1 in 2012, and as the greatest music video artist of all time by MTV in 2003 and Billboard in 2020. Rolling Stone also listed Madonna among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.

Madonna Lyrics

Like the storm I burn through everything
Like a bomb in the night, like a train
Thunder rings through the hills, let it rain
Ah, o-wo-o-ho
Ah, wo-o-ho-ho
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
Ah, wo-o-ho-ho
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
All the boys, all the boys and girls
Wanna be like us tonight
All the boys, all the boys and girls
Ride the magic bus tonight
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
Like a mon with no light of my own
Surf's the sky for a place to call home
I woke up with my head in the fire
Get my kicks when I'm walking the wire
Ah, o-wo-o-ho
Ah, wo-o-ho-ho
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
Ah, o-wo-o-ho
Ah, wo-o-ho-ho
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
All the boys, all the boys and girls
Wanna be like us tonight
All the boys, all the boys and girls
Ride the magic bus tonight
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
Praise the lord and I like it that way
Hail Mary, full of grace
Get down on your knees and pray
Jesus Christ, hanging on the cross
Died for our sins, it's such a loss
Saint Christopher, find my way
I'll be coming home one day
Saint Sebastian, don't you cry
Let those poison arrows fly
Saint Anthony, lost and found
Thomas a cryin', just stand your ground
All those saints and holy men
Catch me before I sin again
Oh-o-wo-ho
Oh-o-wo-ho
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
Oh-o-wo-ho
Oh-o-wo-ho
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner,
I'm a sinner, I like it that way
You're a sinner, you're a sinner
You're a sinner, you like it that way
We're all sinners, we're all sinners
We're all sinners
I'm a sinner
I'm a sinner
I'm a sinner
And I like it that way
Hail Mary, full of grace (the lord is with me)
Hail Mary, full of grace (your love is with me)
Full of grace
The song "I'm A Sinner" by Madonna from her album "MDNA" is an expression of the singer's rebellious spirit and her embrace of her imperfect nature. The lyrics talk about her liking for sinning and her admiration for it, likening herself to the sun, flame, and storm that burn through everything. She speaks of her need for thrill, her indulgence in thrill-seeking behavior, and how it makes her feel alive. The song talks about all individuals being sinners and acknowledging it while asking for the intercession of saints and the grace of the divine to continue to indulge in sin.
The lyrics include many religious references, such as Hail Mary, Saint Christopher, Saint Sebastian, Saint Anthony, and talking about the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. These lines show a conflict and a confusion that Madonna has between religion and sinning. She is seeking help from saints, yet she confesses to being a sinner and liking it. This conflict could be Madonna's way of accepting herself and asking for forgiveness for sins she knows she is committing.
Overall, the song talks about the experiences and emotions that people go through, especially when indulging in sinful behavior. It is an expression of Madonna's rebellious attitude and her journey of self-acceptance.
