María Rodríguez, also known as La Mala, La Mala María, or Mala Rodríguez, is a Spanish hip hop singer. She was born in Jerez de la Frontera,(Cádiz), 13 February 1979. She moved to Seville when she was 4 and to Madrid when she was 19.
Her hip-hop songs are greatly influenced by flamenco music. Some of her lyrics talk about feminism and the problems of the outcasts of society, but in general they are rather abstract.
She became well known in the Spanish hip-hop scene around 1998/1999 when she collaborated with other Sevilla groups like SFDK. However her style was a lot more rough and hardcore. Later on she crossed-over to the mainstream audience with her solo albums but she left behind most of the edge she had in her beginnings and her sound became more laid-back.
She admitted to having been a heroin junkie in her youth but claims that since then she cleaned up. She used to date rapper/producer Supernafamacho, from the group CPV (the founding fathers of Spanish rap). Later on she got involved with a Cuban MC, from the group Explosión Suprema who's now the father of her first baby.
Her music has been featured of the soundtracks of the Spanish films, Lucía y el Sexo (Sex and Lucía), Yo Puta (her songs were used on the movie's television adverts and trailers), the Mexican film, Y tu Mamá También, and the French film, L'Auberge espagnole.
She was also featured on the soundtrack for the EA Sports FIFA 2005 and Scarface: The World is Yours video games.
Most recently, her single "Por la noche" was featured in the Spanish film, "Yo Soy la Juani" (2007). She has also recorded "Mala Suerta con el 13" ("Mala, Loose with -Residente, from Calle- 13) with the Puerto Rican rap duo Calle 13.

tengo lo que tú quieres... [2x]
tu suela, pasión, saliva leche y trucos.
¿Tú me hueles?
En queriendo to' se puede
Échale huevos
He estao en el punto de mira
y mira sigo viva...
Eh cómo lo sabía yo
tengo lo que tú quieres... [2x]
Y otra vez yo, yo, yo, yo y yo, y más yo
pero lo digo to'
a buena entendelo...
Canta canciones que lleven mi nombre
la gloria será pa' quien la corresponde,
yo le llevo flores,
ella se tatúa mi nombre,
más natural que follar
oro, vino, rico, pobre. . .
Mi madre me educó hasta donde pudo
y luego me dió su escudo.
No voy a salvar el mundo,
salvaré mi culo
y lo que me dé la gana.
Mi mensaje es tan egoísta
que tú lo haces tuyo...
Eh cómo lo sabía yo
tengo lo que tú quieres... [2x]
The song "Yo marco el minuto" by Mala Rodríguez is about the confidence and self-assurance that she exudes as a woman with resources and a strong sense of self. The lyrics start with her showing how much she knows about herself and what she has to offer, confidently singing "Ves como lo sabía yo, tengo lo que tú quieres" (See, I knew it, I have what you want). She follows up with the message that she has everything in order, her accounts are not broke, and she has a strong sense of direction, alluding to her being a woman who knows what she wants in life. She claims to have the instincts of a "perra" (dog), implying that she can sniff out opportunities and take advantage of them.
The chorus then reaffirms her confidence, stating that she has what others want, and she has worked hard for it. She brags about being a woman of resources, cautions others about trying to beat her at her own game, and insists that she is in control of her own destiny. The song continues in the same vein, with Mala Rodríguez asserting her independence, stating that she does not care about the trivialities of other people's lives and that she is all about pursuing what she wants.
The song's message centers around being confident and sure of oneself. Mala Rodríguez speaks to women who have dreams and ambitions and encourages them to fight for what they want. The lyrics are empowering and show that a woman can succeed in a world that often tries to hold them down.
