Intravenous Agnostic
Manic Street Preachers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Into a vein exhibit the derelict
A secular mosaic distracted at birth
A Cubist abstraction let it live forever
Narcissism so lonely so live by the sea

What a mess

Cosmetic - polemic
Distinguished by relics
Destructive aesthetic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous

Brutality is needed in capitalist society
Television abandoned my very entity
Nature failed me
But then it made me
We all pray for pluralist babies

Cosmetic - polemic
Distinguished by relics
Destructive aesthetic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous agnostic
Intravenous

Dismayed - dispossessed
Life becomes Calvanist
So sparkle and believe
Linguistics die easily

Intravenous agnostic

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Manic Street Preachers' song Intravenous Agnostic seem to explore themes of society, art, and self-identity. The first verse speaks of injecting the "derelict" into a vein, perhaps a metaphor for injecting art or creativity into society. The phrase "secular mosaic distracted at birth" suggests that society has become too distracted by secular things and has lost sight of the bigger picture. The next line, "A Cubist abstraction let it live forever," could be a reference to the artistic movement of Cubism, which sought to break down traditional forms of art and create something new and lasting. The final line of the verse, "Narcissism so lonely so live by the sea," could refer to society's focus on individualism and the desire to escape to the solitude of the sea.

The chorus repeats the phrase "intravenous agnostic," which could suggest a questioning of traditional beliefs and a search for new ideas. The lines "Cosmetic - polemic, Distinguished by relics, Destructive aesthetic" further suggest the theme of breaking down traditional forms and creating something new and different.

The second verse starts with the line "Brutality is needed in capitalist society," which could be a commentary on the harsh realities of capitalism and the need to be tough in order to succeed. The line "Television abandoned my very entity" speaks to the idea that television and media can have a negative impact on our sense of self. The line "We all pray for pluralist babies" suggests a desire for a more diverse and accepting society.

The final lines of the song, "Dismayed - dispossessed, Life becomes Calvanist, So sparkle and believe, Linguistics die easily," could speak to a sense of disillusionment with society and the need to keep believing in oneself, even in the face of adversity.

Terrific track from the Manics that seems to be about their long lost bandmate, it is truly unfortunate after many years whatever happened, this is however I think one of their finest.

When I saw them in 2001 they soundchecked this (everyone was pressed up against the nearest fire exit :P) but didn't play it live. I used to hate this song, as with most of KYE, but over time it's found a comfortable place in the Manics' timeline.

Chris Bruno

Definitely the best track off KYE. Why oh why has most of the rest of their modern stuff been so poor? They prove that they can still tear it up with tracks like this!

FAEMINOSMITH

Para mi son actualmente el mejor grupo británico, junto con Thunder.

Frankieireland

Certainly could be the actual video. Great stuff. A fantastic tune. Brings back memories.

Time takes it's toll. When you think about it there would be something ridiculous about a bunch of 40 somethings plastered in make up and spray paint jumping around shouting about fucking the system. Still, one of the best bands of all time. Holy Bible rocks my world.
