1) Is a project by Martin Schindler founded on or about 1997 which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2008. Both Martin Schindler and Tina Schindler are also active in electro act Black Heaven and metal outfit Sepia.
The band's name derives from Roman and Etruscan mythology, where Mantus and his wife, Mania were gods of the underworld. They were associated with the city Mantua. Mantus was identified as the "leader of souls", escorting the souls of the dead down into the underworld.
As already said, Mantus is a project by Martin Schindler. But his idea of dark romance only could have been realised by alternating singing of female and male voices. That's why he involved his sister always named as Thalia, which is certainly not her real name.
So the alternating female/male-singing is one incisive aspect of Mantus' musical appearance. Overall the style of the music ranges doom-metal to some kind of pop. The texts contain themes like love, hate, death, perpetuity or immortality but also criticism on global problems as racism, xenophobia and rape.
The reason for their minor popularity in spite of existing for 8 years and releasing 6 albums is that they never gave concerts or appeared in the charts (they never had any ambitions, too).

Alles wirkt so verschwommen
Ein seltsamer Drang von Innen
Ich fühle mich wie benommen
Und es sticht in meinem Herzen
Diese Leere in mir drinnen
Und es rauscht in meiner Seele
Ich tauche langsam ein in
Das Abendrot
Im Morgengrauen, dort wartet
Ein sanfter Tod
Alles im Strom der Zeiten
Alles dreht sich im Kreis
Und es bleibt nur ein Lächeln
Jenseits der Ewigkeit
Und ich gleite in die Tiefe
Um mich selber zu verlieren
Um dort an der letzten Grenze
Einen Moment zu existieren
The lyrics to Mantus's song Sanfter Tod are rich with imagery, tackling themes of emptiness, confusion, and the search for meaning amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the mortal experience. The singer describes feeling disconnected from the world around them, as if everything is distant and unfocused, and a strange feeling wells up within them, leaving them feeling stupefied and adrift. The pain of this emptiness is felt acutely in the heart, and it seems to cloud the singer's perceptions and understanding of the world.
As the song progresses, the singer seems to surrender to this existential dread and allow themselves to be taken by it, sinking slowly into a beautiful and strange twilight world. The promise of a "gentle death" awaits them in the morning, and they seem to be willing to accept this fate, as if it were a release from the overwhelming burden of existence. The cyclical nature of time is invoked, suggesting a repetition and sameness to life that can only be broken by the release of death. Ultimately, the singer is willing to throw themselves into the abyss in order to find some kind of meaning or understanding, even if it is only a fleeting moment before they disappear completely.
