A lala-le, le, le, le, le, le lala
Mi gente
¡Ustedes!
Lo más grande de este mundo
Siempre me hacen sentir
Un orgullo profundo
Los llamé
¡Vengan conmigo!
No me preguntaron dónde
Alala-lala-lala
Que se oiga que yo no oiga na'
Alala-lala-lala
Y tu abuela Pacheco, ¿a donde está?
Alala-lala-lala
En la esquina está cantando guilla
Alala-lala-lala
Ahora es, que está
Alala-lala-lala
Eh, que rico pa' gozar
Alala-lala-lala
Soy jibaro de Puerto Rico
Alala-lala-lala
Lole-lola, lelo-la, lelo-la
Alala-lala-lala
Más duro, más duro
Alala-lala-lala
Willie
Alala-lala-lala
Alala-lala-lala
Alala-lala-lala
Que cante mi gente
Que cante mi gente
Que cante mi gente
Que cante mi gente
The lyrics of Marc Anthony's "Mi Gente" express a deep connection to the artist's roots and a sense of frustration with those who don't understand his struggles. The first stanza presents a range of emotions from suffering to joy, and the second stanza highlights the hardships of working hard and still not being fully understood. The chorus repeats these emotions, conveying the sense of solidarity with his people who share in these experiences. The bridge highlights the commonalities between the artist and his listeners, particularly in their shared love for their homeland and their pain for the injustices and poverty in their communities. The final chorus asserts the artist's commitment to speaking out for his people.
The song Mi Gente was not only a massive hit in Latin America and Spain, but it also charted well in the United States and other countries, further boosting Marc Anthony's international career. The song was awarded the Tropical Song of the Year at the 2006 Latin Billboard Music Awards, and Marc Anthony also won the award for Latin Compilation of the Year for his album "Sigo Siendo Yo."

Sufro, siento, rio, lloro
I experience a range of emotions, from suffering and feeling pain, to laughing and crying
Callo, grito, con toda mi gente
I stay quiet and shout out with my people, expressing myself in different ways
Callo, grito, por que no me entienden
I sometimes stay quiet and scream out because those around me don't understand me
Si yo, trabajo de sol a sol
I work hard, from sunrise to sunset
Si ser honesto es mi religion
My religion is honesty and living a truthful life
Yo no necesito que me digan
I don't need anyone to tell me what I should or shouldn't do
Que es lo que puedo hacer, no no que no
I know what I'm capable of and what I can accomplish
I came a long way to this land
Fue por que havia escuchado la promesa
I came because I heard the promise that I could find a better life here
Que aqui yo encontraria la manera
I believed that here, I could find a way to improve my life
Para poder vivir mejor
So that I could live a better life
I want people to understand that I also work hard and sweat for what I have
Que yo quiero a mi tierra
I am proud of and love my homeland
I feel the same pain as you do
I want people to know that I am from here, just like everyone else
Que tambien me da pena,
I also feel embarrassed and ashamed
Las injusticias, la pobresa de mi gente
By the injustices and the poverty that my people face
I suffer for you and want to help you improve your life
I feel happy when I know that you understand me
Rio al mirar toda mi gente reir
I smile seeing my people laugh and enjoy themselves
I shout when I know that you feel the same way as me
Por mi gente es que grito yo
I shout for my people
Por mi gente es que canto hoy
I sing for my people
Que no sufra mas asi
So that they don't have to suffer anymore
I sing for my land, it's the reason why I'm singing today
