Into the Light
Maria Brink Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can anybody tell me why
We're lying here on the floor
And neither of us can barely breathe at all?
The doctors saying hold on tight
As we say our last goodbyes
And this is, a moment that
Changes our whole lives
And I still believe in the good
And I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun
I wanna free you tonight
And I still believe in the good
And I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun
I wanna free you tonight

I'm staring deep into your eyes
They're telling me the time has come
And I know you're ready to rise and sail home
The room is filling up with light
As we say our last goodnight
I thank you for every second of your life

And I still believe in the good
And I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun
I wanna free you tonight
And I still believe in the good
And I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun
I wanna free you

And I'm falling,
Watching as you're hurting
I'm down here I'm on my knees
How can I survive?
And you turn to me and promise me you're ready
And tell me you'll be waiting on the other side

And I still believe in the good
And I still believe in the light
And I wanna feel the sun
I wanna free you tonight
And you showed me all the good
And you lead me through the light

And you gave me the sun
It's time to free you tonight

Overall Meaning

The song "Into the Light" by Maria Brink is an emotional tribute to a loved one who is about to depart from the world forever. The song begins with a poignant question, "Can anybody tell me why we're lying here on the floor and neither of us can barely breathe at all?" indicating a deep emotional connection between the singer and the person they are talking to. A doctor urges them to "hold on tight" as they say their last goodbyes, which means this is a deathbed scene. However, despite being in a dark and tragic moment, the singer still believes in the good and light, which suggests they see hope and positivity even in the face of grief.

As the song progresses, the singer looks into the eyes of the person they are talking to and sees that the time has come for them to depart. The room is filling up with light, and the goodbye is imminent. The singer thanks the other person for every second of their life, making it clear that the two of them shared a deep connection in life. The song's chorus repeats the singer's belief in the good and the light, their desire to feel the sun, and to free the person they love.

When the bridge section starts, the singer is watching the person they love, knowing that they will soon be gone, and the pain of loss has brought the singer down to their knees. But the singer's loved one turns to them and promises that they are ready, that they will wait on the other side. The song concludes with the singer acknowledging that their loved one showed them all the good, led them through the light, and gave them the sun, and it is now time to free them.

Overall, "Into the Light" is an incredibly moving and emotional song that expresses the power of love and loss. It reminds us that even in moments of extreme sadness, we can find hope and positivity and keep the light of those we love shining brightly within us.

I've always loved this song. March 2021 I lost my wife. The first time I heard this song after her passing, the line "I thank you for every second of your life" brought me tears. I mean ugly cry.
Because of that, I used some of the lyrics from this song, and had them tattooed on my left side
"This is a moment that changes our whole lives
As we say our last goodbyes
I'm falling, watching as you're hurting
I'm down here on my knees
How can I survive
I thank you for every second of your life
Tell me you'll be waiting on the other side"

2 weeks after I had this tattooed, In This Moment came to my city. I had to go.
Amazing show, and just what I needed.

Maria and ITM will always be very special to me.

When my Fiance and I would be in the car together, there was always music. Sam had a wicked-crazy music collection that crossed all kinds of genres, so I never knew what would play next. We were on a spur-of-the-moment day trip up to KCMO, and this started to play. I had a list in my phone of songs that I wanted to look into at a later time, and I'd added this song to it. And promptly forgot about it.

A month later, Sam died.

Suddenly, instead of planning a wedding, I'm helping his Mom plan a funeral.. Then she suddenly backs away from me.. won't talk to me, won't acknowledge me... nothing. Even has his Aunt ask for any of his belongings I had.. (She's dealing with stage 4 cancer, so.. I don't know.. Grief is an odd thing)

The day before Sam's visitation, I was going through my phone looking at pictures, and then brought up my memos, and there was the list of music I'd intended to look at.. This was the first song..

I truly believe he was my soul's mate..

I'm so sorry for your loss. I too lost my fiancΓ© to cancer back in 2018 and I play this song as well. Touches my soul and I also "ugly" cry and bad. Because where there is great pain and grief, there is great love and love lives on forever. β™‘

Friend of mine just had the same. I've known 4 people that have had breast cancer now and not one survivor. I love this song for the emotion it has in it. You can tell in the live version of the DVD that Maria is still hurting.. Just after the high note, she's she close to breaking into tears you can feel it.
