With your voice so deep
But you were just talking in your sleep
I'll do just what you crave
My life for you I'll waive
All I get is the spot next to your grave
I'm not hanging here
to keep you company
[*]
But what am I suppose to do when all hope is gone?
How am I suppose to leave you when you're the only one?
I made a deal with Mr. Hades
my soul he wants to buy
For you I'll die
Oh this is the end
My only friend, the end
are words from our favourite band
I know we're not astray
And my love won't decay
Are things that you'll never say
It is strange how time flies
It's been a year that's gone by
and you don't know the colour of my eyes
[*]
For you I'll die
No oh, no oh oh, no oh
And you're a fool to not see
I'm not hanging here
to keep you company
It is strange how time flies
It's been a year that's gone by
and you don't know the colour of my eyes
[*]
For you I'll die
For you I'll die
For you I'll die
Marion Raven's song "For You I'll Die" is a melancholic ballad about unrequited love and the lengths someone will go to in order to prove their devotion. In the song, Raven sings about being deeply in love with someone who doesn't feel the same way, but who she is willing to die for. The opening lines convey the sense of longing and despair. The person she loves told her that she belongs to him, but she realizes that it was only a dream. She is so devoted to him that she would give up her life for him, but all she will get in return is the spot next to his grave. The person she loves is naive not to recognize her true feelings and mistakes her for someone who keeps him company.
The chorus has a somber tone and reveals that the singer of the song has given up on everything else and has made a deal with Mr. Hades, the Greek god of the underworld, to trade her soul for the person she loves. The last two lines of the chorus, "For you, I'll die," repeat to emphasize the intensity of her feeling, but at the same time, they are also painful to hear, knowing that she is willing to give her life for someone who doesn't appreciate her.
In the second stanza of the verse, the singer tries to hold on to hope, but she knows that it's over. She references the Doors' song "The End," which is a song about death and the dissolution of dreams. The verse ends with her longing for her lover to acknowledge her love before it's too late.
The song's third stanza repeats the idea of time passing, and yet the person she loves still doesn't recognize her devotion and never has seen the color of her eyes. This line highlights the fact that the singer feels invisible to the person she loves, and despite being so devoted, she has never received any attention in return.
Overall, "For You, I'll Die" is a moving song that reflects on the painful experience of unrequited love and the willingness to do anything for someone who doesn't appreciate it.
