Muted Smile

You only see the sky
Pulled against the tide
Your bones never settled right
And you fell when the wrong eclipsed the right
You and your muted smile
As if you weren't who they you are
Sun dance flare burns in your heart
Your stubborn sole
Keeps the moon from night
Beneath the sun
You sleep to hush the light
And dreams of
Stars would whisper truth
But you'd stay dead to tend a bruise
You and your muted smile
As if you weren't who they you are
Leave your winter hide
Sun dance flare burns in your heart
I wish we were
Laying on the moon
I'd give you the world
Like I always said I'd do
From up here the ocean seems to small
If you jumped we could spend a lifetime in the fall
You and your muted smile
As if you weren't who they you are
Leave your winter hide
Sun dance flare burns in your heart
You float to the blackout
It's only you now
And the air in your chest
And for the first time
You hear your heart beat
You find the fuse you need
To light the darkest paradise
You and your muted smile
As if you weren't who they you are
Leave your winter hide
Sun dance flare burns in your heart
The song "Muted Smile" by Mark Diamond is a deeply introspective and emotional piece that deals with themes of insecurity, self-doubt, and the journey towards self-discovery. In the first verse, the lyrics paint a picture of someone who has always felt out of place - as if their "bones never settled right" and they never quite fit in with the world around them. The second verse suggests that this person has developed a shell of sorts to protect themselves, hiding behind a "muted smile" to avoid showing their true self to anyone. The chorus reiterates this idea, suggesting that this person feels like they aren't fully embracing who they truly are and that there is a burning desire within them to break out of their shell and truly let themselves be seen.
The bridge of the song offers a glimpse into what could be - a world where this person is able to fully embrace themselves with the support of someone else. The imagery of "laying on the moon" and "spending a lifetime in the fall" suggests a world of endless possibilities, a place where anything is possible. Finally, the song ends with a powerful statement of self-discovery and transformation, as the singer reveals that the person they've been singing about has finally found the "fuse" they needed to "light the darkest paradise" within themselves.
Overall, "Muted Smile" is a powerful and introspective song that speaks to the universal desire to be seen and understood in a world that can often feel cold and indifferent.
