Walk Away
Matt Monro Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walk away, please go
Before you throw your life away
A life that I could share for just a day
We should have met some years ago
For your sake I say
Walk away, just go.

Walk away, and live
A life that's full
With no regret
Don't look back at me
Just try to forget
Why build a dream that cannot come true
So be strong, reach the stars now
Walk away, walk on.

If I heard your voice
I'd beg you to stay
So don't say a word
Just run, run away.

Goodbye my love
My tears will fall
Now that you've gone
I can't help but cry
But I must go on
I'm sad that I after searching so long

Knew, I loved you, but I told you
Walk away, walk on, walk on

Overall Meaning

The song "Walk Away" by Matt Monro is a poignant ballad that talks about the importance of letting go and moving on. The first verse of the song describes a kind of unrequited love. The singer feels deeply for the person they are addressing, but it seems like their love is not reciprocated. They are urging that person to walk away and not waste their life on a love that is not meant to be. The singer feels that if they had met earlier, things might have been different. But now, it is too late, and it is time for the other person to move on.

The second verse of the song is more of a pep-talk. The singer urges the other person to live a full and fulfilling life without any regrets. The love they had might not have worked out, but that doesn't mean life is not worth living. The singer encourages the other person to be strong and to reach for their dreams. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "walk away" several times, as if to drive home the point that it is essential to move on.

A very underrated singer of his time Matt was as good if not better than anything Hollywood could offer . . . not bad for a guy who used to be a bus driver in the UK RIP Matt Munro.
