Let Me In
Matt Reeves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh how strange and divine, I can sing, "cll is mine"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Saviour He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed

To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
cnd He was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing, "I am free"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
cnd day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
cll the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
cll the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
cll the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
cll the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat

Yet not I, but through Christ in me
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Overall Meaning

In the song "Let Me In" by Matt Reeves, the lyrics express a deep devotion to Jesus Christ and an acknowledgment of His grace, redemption, and love. The first verse opens with the recognition that Jesus is the ultimate gift of grace and that heaven has nothing more to offer. He is described as the source of joy, righteousness, freedom, boundless peace, and steadfast love.

The chorus reinforces the central theme of the song, which is the hope and reliance on Jesus. The singer declares that their life is wholly bound to Jesus and that their hope lies in Him alone. The line "Oh how strange and divine, I can sing, 'cll is mine'" suggests a sense of awe and wonder at the privilege of being connected to Christ. The singer acknowledges that it is not their own strength or merit but Christ in them that allows them to proclaim this truth.

The second verse focuses on the challenges and struggles of life, symbolized by the metaphorical darkness of the night. However, the singer finds solace in the assurance that Jesus is by their side, steadfastly supporting them. They acknowledge that despite their weaknesses, they can continue to labor with rejoicing because it is in their times of need that the power of Christ is displayed.

The third verse emphasizes the freedom and forgiveness that comes through Jesus' sacrifice. The singer proclaims that they have no fear of their fate because they know they are forgiven and that Jesus's death and resurrection have paid the price for their sins. The chains of sin and guilt have been released, and they are now able to declare their freedom. Again, they attribute this victory to Jesus rather than themselves.

The final verse expresses a deep desire to follow Jesus and be brought home by Him. The singer believes in the promise that Jesus will renew them day by day until they stand with joy before His throne. The chorus is repeated, emphasizing that the singer's hope lies only in Jesus and that all glory belongs to Him.

Overall, the lyrics of "Let Me In" convey a strong sense of reliance and gratitude towards Jesus Christ, acknowledging His grace, redemption, and power. The singer finds hope and strength in Him, recognizing that their own abilities and efforts are insufficient, but it is through Christ in them that they can overcome challenges and experience true freedom.

I have not yet seen "Let Me In," but I really thought its Swedish predecessor - for all intents and purposes - was flawlessly executed. When I finally do get around to seeing "Let Me In," I hope that I can not only appreciate it to the same degree, but that I finally understand why someone thought it was necessary to take a second approach (beyond the studios cashing in).

@cloudvol7 I think it's VERY subjective to say which pool scene you like better. I like the LMI scene better because: 1-Owen's terrified and that makes him seem less likely to become a killer for Abby later. Oskar smiles like he doesn't mind all the dead bodies. 2-Owen runs and is dragged back to the pool. Very disturbing visuals. 3-We see Abby through Owen's eyes instead of being shown her face. More subtle. 4-Owen is actually out of breath. Oskar must be AquaMan or something.

@cloudvol7 It's all subjective. Since the two movies are made in a different style, it's only natural that some will prefer one over the other....depending on taste. I like the vibe of the pool scene in LMI better for several reasons already listed, but also like how the glass hits the surface of the water as Abby enters...plus her scream of rage. That tells me she knew Owen was in trouble before she got there...indicating a physic connection between them.

i like both versions and i don´t think one can truly compare them . the swedish original sticks very close to the book, eli is an enigma, and i really like that the actors don´t have this 'clean+polished' look most in hollywood have - you see badly bleached hair, crooked teeth, in other words: normal people, which gives the movie an authentic feeling. the american remake though focuses more on owen and his relationship to abby which is also great. basically, i like both, and love the book ;-)

I loved LTROI, it was brilliant and dramatic and Iyou could feel emotionally involved with the characters, but in LMI I found it less interesting and harder to get in to. I loved Eli in LTROI and at the end I felt sorry for Eli, not the dead boys

I read the book and saw the film, which I loved but wished certain details had been left in from the book. I'm curious to see how much more or less of the book this film will include.

HarpoSpoke

@FannyVaskz I read the book and saw both movies too. LMI is the best version for me. If the camera movements are different they can't be "exactly the same". You should also research why LMI was made so quickly. The Swedish producers of LTROI sold the rights before that movie was even released because no one thought it would be seen by anyone. THEY are the ones that wanted a remake before anyone else did.

Though I liked Let me in, I loved Let the right one in a thousand times better. But Reeves was also very consequent about his goals , and it shows. I respect that.

HarpoSpoke

@cloudvol7 I was so happy that Lacke and Virgina's side arc was removed in LMI. The heart of the story is the kids. LMI spends more time with them...exactly what I want. And Lacke was an unlikeable character to me. The first time we see him, he is taking a leak on the grass in front of Eli's apartment. We are supposed to believe he turns into Van Helsing at the end and I was glad Eli killed him. The Cop is not there to kill Abby and I felt sorry for him. "The nature of good/evil"

@DiegoUnRated I like both movies so much and each one of them are better than the other at some points and worse in others. It's actually very hard to pick one over the other but I think I like Let Me In a little bit more because of the EMOTIONAL bonding between Abby and Owen, I could felt their love in EVERY scene. In Let The Right One In I never perceived real love between Eli and Oskar.
