After the commercial success of Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, and earning a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", Meat Loaf nevertheless experienced some difficulty establishing a steady career within the United States. The key to this success was his popularity in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He received the 1994 Brit Award in the United Kingdom for best-selling album and single. He appeared in the 1997 film Spice World and he ranked 23rd for the number of weeks spent on the UK charts in 2006. He ranks 96th on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock". Meat Loaf appeared in over 50 films and television shows, sometimes as himself or as characters resembling his stage persona. His film roles include Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Robert Paulsen in Fight Club (1999). His early stage work included dual roles in the original Broadway cast of The Rocky Horror Show. He also appeared in the musical Hair, both on and Off-Broadway.

There's a crack where his heart was beating last
Oh I can tell he's been through hell
I say never stop dreaming
Oh yesterday's gone
Tomorrow is the day
Oh we're not dying
For the lovers, the dreamers
The kids who say
Never stop living
Oh never stop living
Cause if it rains it rains
We'll be in the street looking thunder in the face
Singing na na na na na
I won't change
Cause if it rains it rains
Oh like water in your lungs
They try to shut you down
Take your good ideas
And your shout out louds
But they don't know
The movement's growing
We'll never stop breathing
Oh never before and never again
Will there be a moment like this my friend
To make a change
Stand up and say
Never stop living
No never stop living
Cause if it rains it rains
We'll be in the street looking thunder in the face
Singing na na na na na
I won't change
Cause if it rains it rains
Cause if it rains it rains
We'll be in the street looking thunder in the face
Singing na na na na na
I won't change
Cause if it rains it rains
If it rains it rains
We'll be in the street looking thunder in the face
Singing nan na na na na
I won't change
Cause if it rains it rains
Oh if it rains it rains
Oh no now
Oh if it rains it rains
Meat Loaf's song "If It Rains" encourages listeners to maintain hope in the face of adversity. The first verse describes a man that has gone through hardships, evident from a crack where his heart was beating last. However, the chorus emphasizes the importance of never giving up on one's dreams or on life itself, even if it rains. The lyrics suggest that facing challenges can lead to growth and pave the way for future generations to continue dreaming and living passionately. The idea that rain can represent challenges or difficult times is a common metaphor, but the song takes on a hopeful tone by suggesting that the rain cannot stop people from singing, dreaming, and living fully.
The second verse encourages listeners to be resilient in the face of oppression and not allow others to quiet their voices. Although good ideas may be dismissed or censored, the song suggests that movements will continue to grow and inspire others. The pre-chorus and chorus are repeated with minor variations throughout the song, reinforcing the importance of never giving up and singing through the rain.
