After the commercial success of Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, and earning a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", Meat Loaf nevertheless experienced some difficulty establishing a steady career within the United States. The key to this success was his popularity in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He received the 1994 Brit Award in the United Kingdom for best-selling album and single. He appeared in the 1997 film Spice World and he ranked 23rd for the number of weeks spent on the UK charts in 2006. He ranks 96th on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock". Meat Loaf appeared in over 50 films and television shows, sometimes as himself or as characters resembling his stage persona. His film roles include Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Robert Paulsen in Fight Club (1999). His early stage work included dual roles in the original Broadway cast of The Rocky Horror Show. He also appeared in the musical Hair, both on and Off-Broadway.

Song Of Madness
Meat Loaf Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My heart flowed through my broken voice to her
The queen did smile and she did cry my fingers bled a thousand lives
A red-teared river flowed our lives between us
Her majesties tears and the pauper's blood an angels breath and the devil's touch
The song of madness madly crying to her
You're a wolf in a lamb's disguise
Morning gonna carry us to our grave
Dream a dream in agony
Sweetest dream you'll ever see
Make my dream reality oh carry me
Carry me to my grave
She placed the blade within the king's throne and in mine did I place my own
With the lamb's blood we purchased our sin's pardon
The sky ripped open and the shadows bled the moon blew out and the stars burned red
The song of madness madly crying to her
On a night such as this
An angel's lips and the devil's kiss
Morning gonna carry me to my grave
Dream a dream in agony
The sweetest dream you'll ever see
Make my dream reality
Carry me
Carry me to my grave
Oh carry me
Carry me to my grave
The song of madness madly crying to her
The song of madness shot like lightning through us
The song of madness madly crying to her
Madness
Madness
Madness
My god my queen just lie to me
Make me believe that I am king
And by morning
You're a wolf in a lamb's disguise
A cold lover with a warm invite
Morning gonna carry us to our grave
Dream a dream in agony
Sweetest dream you'll ever see
Make my dream reality and carry me
Oh carry me
Carry me to my grave
Carry me to my grave
Carry me
Carry me to my grave
The lyrics of this song describe a dark dream in which the singer, presumably a troubled individual, plays a magic song for a queen, whose tears mix with the blood of a pauper to form a red-teared river between them. The Queen appears to be moved by the song, smiling and crying at the same time, while the singer's fingers bleed. The song is described as the "Song of Madness," and the lyrics repeat the phrase "madly crying to her" several times.
Later in the dream, the singer and the queen place blades in the throne of the king and their own, purchasing forgiveness for their sins with lamb's blood. This act is followed by a rip in the sky, shadows bleeding and the moon blowing out, stars going red. The song of madness is described as shooting "like lightning" through them. The dream ends with the singer pleading with the queen to "lie to me" and "make me believe that I am king."
The lyrics of "Song of Madness" seem to be heavily symbolic, but the exact meaning is open to interpretation. The song may represent the singer's descent into madness, with the dream symbolizing the chaotic and violent thoughts and impulses that he is struggling to control. It is also possible that the song is a metaphor for the dangers of power and ambition, with the queen representing the seductive allure of control, and the blood and blades symbolizing the bloody consequences of pursuing it.

3:59 Mr. Vai contributed to the song and no question did awesome! But there's also three or four other players just in this one song alone. The album itself I believe had twelve or more guitar players involved if I'm not mistaken. Excellent album.
