Laid, lai pulkstenis iet,
Laid, lai pulkstenis iet,
Neturi viņu ciet.
Kā tev patīk, ka tev neļauj,
Ka tev neļauj iet?
Laid, lai pulkstenis iet,
Neturi viņu ciet.
Vienalga vai turi,
Vai neturi viņu ciet.
Tu vari aizvērt pa visam
Pulksteni ciet.
Vienalga vai turi,
Vai neturi viņu ciet.
Tu vari aizvērt pa visam
Pulksteni ciet.
Tik un tā, tik un tā,
Tik un tā pulkstenis iet.
Varbūt kaut kur vēl snieg,
Un sniegpulkstenītes zied
Pulkstenis varbūt zin, kur viņš iet,
Neturi viņu ciet.
Kā tev patīk, ka tev neļauj,
Ka tev neļauj iet?
Laid, lai pulkstenis iet,
Neturi viņu ciet.
Vienalga vai turi,
Vai neturi viņu ciet.
Tu vari aizvērt pa visam
Pulksteni ciet.
Vienalga vai turi,
Vai neturi viņu ciet.
Tu vari aizvērt pa visam
Pulksteni ciet.
Tik un tā, tik un tā,
Tik un tā pulkstenis iet.
Vienalga vai turi,

Tu vari aizvērt pa visam

The lyrics of Menuets' song "Laid lai iet!" are simple and repetitive, yet they convey a deep meaning about the passage of time and the futility of trying to control it. The first stanza repeats the phrase "Laid, lai iet", which can be translated to "Let it go" or "Let it run", followed by "Laid, lai pulkstenis iet" which means "Let the clock run". The repetition creates a hypnotic effect that evokes the ticking of a clock, reinforcing the theme of time passing. The third line "Neturi viņu ciet" means "Don't hold it back", emphasizing the idea that time cannot be stopped or controlled.
The second stanza repeats the same idea, with the addition of the line "Tu vari aizvērt pa visam/Pulksteni ciet" which means "You can close the clock all the way". This line gives the impression of someone trying to stop time by closing the clock, but ultimately failing. The repetition of the phrase "Tik un tā pulkstenis iet" which means "Still, the clock goes on" emphasizes the inevitability of time passing, no matter how much we resist it.
The third stanza introduces the image of snowflakes and snow clocks, suggesting that even in nature, there are elements of time that cannot be controlled. The final repetition of "Tik un tā pulkstenis iet" concludes the song with the same message that no matter what we do, time will continue to march forward.
