MercyMe Lyrics

This manger for your bed
You have a long road before You
Rest Your little head
Can You feel the weight of Your glory?
Do You understand the price?
Or does the Father guard Your heart for now
Go to sleep my Son
Go and chase Your dreams
This world can wait for one more moment
Go and sleep in peace
I believe the glory of Heaven
Is lying in my arms tonight
But Lord, I ask that He for just this moment
Simply be my child
Go to sleep my Son
Baby, close Your eyes
Soon enough You'll save the day
But for now, dear Child of mine
Oh my Jesus, Sleep tight
The song "Joseph's Lullaby" by MercyMe is a heartwarming and tender song that portrays the love of Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, for his newborn baby boy. The song begins with Joseph telling Jesus to go to sleep and rest, signaling the start of Jesus' life journey. As Joseph watches his newborn son fall asleep, he wonders if Jesus understands the weight of his glory or if God is safeguarding his heart for now so that he can sleep peacefully.
The following verse has Joseph encouraging Jesus to go and chase his dreams and not be concerned about the chaos in the world. Joseph understands that the world can wait for one more moment, while his son sleeps in peace. Joseph then expresses his belief that the glory of Heaven, Jesus' true home, lies in his arms tonight. Nevertheless, he asks God to allow him to treasure that moment when Jesus is simply his child.

This song is very touching. This song should be heard by everyone, especially those who knowΒ what it's like to love a child. It also is a much better representation of Joseph and his heart than most other times he's represented. I've portrayed Joseph twice in church productions and I always try to get to know, as best I can through reading,Β who I portray. ThroughΒ myΒ preparation and listening to this songΒ I realized that Joseph was not the heartless piece of stone that most people represent him as. Also, I raised my neice from the time she was six months old until she was a little over a year old and I came to love her as if she were my child,Β however her mother has not allowed any contact since. As such I understand, though on a much smaller scale, when Joseph just wants to beΒ the best fatherΒ he can to Jesus while he has Him, and he wants Jesus to be spared the knowledge of what's coming. I also love that Joseph is just singing a lullaby to the child who means more to him than all else (except for Mary, but the relationships areΒ so different that they are incomparable). I've sung plenty of lullabies myself, so it's nice to hear a man not being treated like scum for simply being male.

I'm not sure Joseph is portrayed like that

The best part is when she married the monster

I loved the song & I feel ur heart to have loved a child not to get contact with them!!!

@Robyn Cramer, well said.

+Elias Markov I agree that Joseph is most generally portrayed so very opposite. He married a woman who others saw unfit because she was pregnant before they actually wed. Joseph is the perfect picture of a loving, caring, righteous man. If he wasn't, I'm pretty sure that God wouldn't have chosen him to raise His son.
