Finding his voice in a school choir, Crawford began his professional career still a teenager. Having some luck on the London stage in the early 60s, he then found his way onto the BBC and starred in various programmes such as 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em'. He also had film roles in 'The War Lover', 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'. and 'How I Won the War' (which brought him into the same work as John Lennon).
Andrew Lloyd Webber's casting of him opposite Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton as the Phantom in 1986 shot his career into high gear. Winning a Tony Award for his role, Crawford also had the aforementioned tune, "The Music Of The Night", reach the British Top Ten. He has released several studio albums such as 'A Touch of Music in the Night' and 'On Eagle's Wings' among others.

Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
The lyrics to Michael Crawford's song "You'll Never Walk Alone" are an uplifting and inspiring message to anyone facing a difficult time. The first verse advises the listener to hold their head high and not be afraid of the dark, as there is always hope at the end of the storm. This is reinforced in the second verse, urging the listener to continue on through the wind and rain, even if their dreams are being tossed and blown. The final line, "you'll never walk alone," reinforces the message of hope and comfort, suggesting that even in the darkest of times, the listener will never be alone.
The song's message is simple, yet powerful, and has had a lasting impact on many people. It has been performed at a number of events and occasions, from sports matches to funerals, and is often used as a show of solidarity or support. The song's lyrics have even been used in political campaigns, such as during the 2019 UK General Election.
Interestingly, the song has its origins in a musical, "Carousel," written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II in 1945. The song was originally written for the character Nettie Fowler to sing as a show of support for the female lead, Julie Jordan. The song was later covered by a number of artists, including Elvis Presley, and became a popular anthem in its own right.
