The name Mirabilis is Latin for something that is wonderful, miraculous, or unusual. The two women see their musical union as an amazing and unique experience and the name embodies those sentiments. Dru and Summer are the core members of Mirabilis, but they use the project as an avenue to bring in other like-minded artists as guest performers to create something that is extraordinary and unique.
In 2001, Mirabilis made their debut on Projekt Records' holiday compilation, Excelsis, Volume 3 with their rendition of the Spanish carol, "Riu Riu Chiu." In December of 2003, the band's first release, a limited edition 7-inch self-titled EP was released on Fossil Dungeon. They quickly followed up with a full-length debut CD, Pleiades, in 2004 on the Middle Pillar Presents label. Pleiades blends together the beautiful voices of Summer and Dru as well as guest vocalists Regeana Morris (of The Changelings), Katy Belle (of Matson Belle), and Rebecca Colleen Miller.
In 2008, Mirabilis returns with the second full length album, Sub Rosa. Released in partnership between Middle Pillar Presents and Projekt, the release has a unique intensity and style, showcasing a broader range of instruments and styles while still exploring familiar classical and ethereal ground. Vocals continue to shine as the dominant instrumentation but Dru and Summer also explore a variety of new lush instruments and still remain true to their own unique genre.
Summer Bowman is half of acclaimed gothic/darkwave duo the Machine in the Garden. Summer has performed roles as both a singer and songwriter and has also become involved in the recording studio engineering, mixing, and producing. In addition to these projects, Summer performs with the Austin Civic Chorus, the featured chorus of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
Dru Allen has also put her stamp on the ethereal world, having co-founded the band This Ascension. The group blends standard indie rock with tribal elements and a number of vocal styles including opera, medieval, and traditional folk. In addition, Dru performed in the University of California Santa Barbara Women's Ensemble every quarter for four years while working towards her degree in Classical Latin and Greek.

World Indifferent
Mirabilis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Aloft feelings it seems once were mine
Unfurling to penetrate memory
It's only time
Sun ceases warming, it warns me, but I came
I came for you
Each in our hearts alone
You try me doubtless in your way
So sure the pieces
You hold, so tell me
Am I alone?
Sorting through layers it's cloudy
Hot ice and strange wondrous snow
Impressions sculptured ephemeral
Of what I know
I came for you
Each in our hearts alone
But fighting the way
At odds with myself you and I
Our very nature fleeting
Fractured and reeling
Restore my own
I look at a landscape unknown to me
Aloft feelings it seems once were mine
Unfurling to penetrate memory
It's only time
Sun ceases warming, it warns me, but I came
I came for you
Each in our hearts alone
But finding the way
At odds with myself you and I
Our very nature fleeting
Fractured and reeling
Restore my own
You try me doubtless in your way
So sure the pieces
You hold, so tell me
Am I alone?
The lyrics of World Indifferent by Mirabilis explore themes of introspection and the search for meaning in a world that can often feel overwhelming and indifferent. The singer is observing a landscape that they do not recognize, but it stirs up memories and feelings that they had thought were lost. The inevitability of time passing is evoked with the warning of the sun ceasing to warm, but the singer persists in their search for something or someone they came for, even though they feel alone.
The chorus expresses this loneliness, as the singer and the person they came for are both in their own hearts, but fighting to find their way. The verses continue to explore the introspective journey, with the singer finding it difficult to sort through their own layers and the impressions that they have built up over time. They feel at odds with themselves and the person they came for, but also recognize the fleeting nature of their own identity and seek to restore it.
The final lines show the singer questioning whether they are truly alone, even though they feel disconnected from the world and themselves. Overall, the lyrics of World Indifferent are a reflection on the human experience of seeking meaning and connection in a world that is often indifferent to our struggles.

I look out at landscape unknown to me
I'm looking at a place I'm unfamiliar with
Aloft feelings it seems once were mine
I used to feel something about this place
Unfurling to penetrate memory
My memories of this place are coming back
It's only time
It'll just take some time for me to remember
Sun ceases warming, it warns me, but I came
The sun is setting, but I still came here
I came for you
I came here for you
Each in our hearts alone
We're both alone in our feelings
But fighting the way
But we're still trying to make it work
You try me doubtless in your way
You test me in your own way
So sure the pieces
You're confident in the things you've figured out
You hold, so tell me
So, why don't you tell me
Am I alone?
Am I the only one feeling this way?
Sorting through layers it's cloudy
I'm trying to understand everything, but it's confusing
Hot ice and strange wondrous snow
Everything is different and unique here
Impressions sculptured ephemeral
My memories are just fleeting impressions
Of what I know
Of what little I still remember
At odds with myself you and I
I'm conflicted with myself and our relationship
Our very nature fleeting
We're both temporary in nature
Fractured and reeling
We're both broken and struggling
Restore my own
Help me fix myself
But finding the way
But we're still trying to figure it out

I heard this song on the "Darker Shade of Pagan" podcast, and fell in love. It's a truly rare thing to find a harmony this rich, and lyrics this solid. I love the minimalist sound, it's absolutely perfect for the feeling of the words. Great post!
