Chaahe re tujhko jiya
Kaise karoon yaqeen tu hai dilbar
Ya koi vaham piya, Behroopia.
Yeh dil tune bas me kiya, Behroopia
Haseen kusoor kiya.
Maine ek muskaan sajaa kar
Pyara tujhe bhi hai meri soorat se
Mera naqaab piya Behroopia.
Zara sa hai fark piya, Behroopia.
mmm.
Jalaa chingari shama ban ja
Main bhi parwana hoon mujhe aazma
Bujhi shamma se na dil behla
Haath me aayega tere bas dhuaan
Hai yeh sitam hai ye zulm saraasar
Neendon pe kabza kiya
Karle tu yaqeen main hoon dilbar
Na koi waham piya, Behroopia.
Yeh dil tune bas me kiya, Behroopia
Haseen kusoor kiya
Yeh dil tujhe de hi diya
Jo hona hai hoga piya
Behroopia. Behroopia!
Behroopia. Behroopia!
Behroopia. Behroopia!
Behroopia. Behroopia!
The lyrics of Mohit Chauhan's song Behroopia express a love that is so intense that it defies all doubts and suspicions that might plague one’s thoughts. The singer of the song finds himself completely enamoured by his beloved, and is ready to fully believe whatever she says. He finds himself caught in a spell of true love, and wonders about the magic that has been worked on him by his beloved. He is spellbound by her beauty and finds that he cannot distinguish between the truth and the imagination, between reality and an illusion. He admits that he has fallen so blindly in love that he can no longer tell if his love is based on reality or if it is all an illusion in his mind. Though he acknowledges that his love is twisted and tortuous, he still asks his beloved to trust him fully and to believe in his love for her.
The refrain "Behroopia" means "illusionist" or "magician" in Hindi, and is used as a metaphor for the spell that the singer of the song finds himself under. He finds himself completely bewildered by his beloved's charm and beauty, and is unable to break free from her spell. The song's lyrics are complemented by nuanced instrumentation, with the gentle strumming of the guitar and the haunting notes of the flute and keyboard, making for a heartrendingly beautiful musical experience.
