Burch's voice takes cues from old timers like Dusty Springfield and Patsy Cline to create throaty mountains and valleys of sound. It's retro country and soul in the best way. Growing up in Los Angeles with a writer/producer father and a casting director mother, Burch's childhood was filled with old Hollywood musicals and the sounds of Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. After finding her voice in adolescence, Burch packed up for the University of North Carolina in Asheville to study Jazz Vocal Performance.

Haven't you?
Ain't it sad, ain't it a shame
That I'm the only one to blame?
For every little thing
Every little thing
For every little thing I've done
I've worn my body down
I've worn my body down
I've worn my body down
I'm done
All the days I do try to be good
And so kind
Sometimes it is hard to live
That is why we must forgive
Every little thing
Every little thing
For every little thing we've done
I've worn my body down
I've worn my body down
I've worn my body down
I'm done
The song "Every Little Thing" by Molly Burch focuses on the sadness and blame that come from past mistakes. The opening line "For some time I've been so blue / Haven't you?" suggests that this is a shared experience, that everyone has felt the weight of regret at some point. The "sad" and "shameful" feeling of being "the only one to blame" for every little thing they've done is something that people can easily identify with, as most people have made small mistakes that have added up over time.
The line "I've worn my body down" speaks to the physical toll that carrying this weight has on a person. The repetition of this line emphasizes the feeling of exhaustion, as if the singer has made so many mistakes that they've become run-down and tired. The chorus "Every little thing / For every little thing / For every little thing I've done" adds to this feeling of weight, as if everything they've done, no matter how small, has contributed to their feelings of guilt and shame.
In the second verse, the focus shifts to the idea of forgiveness. While it is "hard to live" sometimes, forgiveness is necessary in order to move on from past mistakes. The chorus changes slightly, to "For every little thing we've done," implying that forgiveness should not just be given to oneself, but also to others. The repetition of "I've worn my body down" underscores how much effort and work goes into forgiving oneself and others.
Overall, "Every Little Thing" is a poignant portrayal of the weight of regret and the need for forgiveness. It speaks to the human experience of making mistakes and the toll that it takes on the mind and body. The song offers a message of hope, suggesting that through forgiveness, it is possible to move past the weight of past mistakes.
