While "Good" earned the band critical notoriety and substantial underground cred, they did not -- with this release or any subsequent -- break into the mainstream. After the release of Good, the band replaced Dupree with Billy Conway, a former bandmate of Sandman. Morphine's 1992 release of Cure for Pain, promoted by heavy touring, received some mainstream positive attention, selling over 300,000 copies worldwide and spawning a chart hit in many countries with the single Buena
Subsequent releases include Yes and Like Swimming.
On July 3, 1999, Mark Sandman collapsed on stage in Palestrina, Italy, a suburb of Rome. He was pronounced dead of a heart attack at the scene. He was 46. Morphine released The Night -- arguably their best effort -- posthumously in 2000.
After Sandman's death, the remaining band members reformed and continued to record as Twinemen and later as The Ever Expanding Elastic Waste Band
In 2004, the Mark Sandman box set Sandbox was released by Hi-n-Dry, Mark Sandman's own label. It contains two CDs and a DVD of previously unreleased material spanning Sandman’s musical career. The DVD features clips from early Sandman shows, interviews from the Morphine tours, and various videos from other Sandman solo and group projects, such as Treat Her Right.

Have a Lucky Day II
Morphine Lyrics

I'm on a bus to Atlantic City later on today
Now I'm sitting at a blackjack table and I swear to God my dealer has a tag says Mabel
Hit me hit me I smile at Mabel soon they're bringing complimentary drinks to the table
Players win and winners play have a lucky day (x2)
Mabel gives me a great big smile she's getting to know me she's on my side
I'm a winner (x4)
And I came to play now I know why they say
Have a lucky day
Now I'm down a little in fact I'm down a lot I'm on a roller coaster ride that I can't stop
Yea my luck has changed but she'll come back
That's the beauty of a game of chance
I can't loose forever but I'm doomed to try because I keep on hearing a voice inside
Players win and winners play have a lucky day (x2)
Have a lucky day
Come on Mabel hit me one time come on baby
The lyrics of Morphine's song "Have a Lucky Day" describe the experience of a man who is feeling fortunate and confident as he travels to Atlantic City to gamble. He finds himself sitting at a blackjack table with a dealer named Mabel, who he believes is on his side. As he wins, he smiles at her and drinks are brought to the table. He feels like a winner and understands the adage that "players win and winners play." However, as the game continues, he begins to lose and is on a "roller coaster ride" of highs and lows. Despite this, he believes that his luck will change and he will win again. He is compelled to continue playing despite the voice inside him telling him that he cannot keep losing.
