En Mørk Horisont
Mortiis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

English translate: Reflections Of Horizont's Dark
In all the candles that I burn,
I see the formations of horizons dark.
And in my mind hear voices cry, so sad.
Behind the forests (what do they hide?).
In my nightmares I can see what they hide.
So evil, this place feels familiar in some way.
It feels right.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mortiis's song En Mørk Horisont evoke a sense of eerie familiarity with dark, foreboding landscapes. The repeated line "in all the candles that I burn, I see the formations of horizons dark" suggests a constant quest for illumination and understanding, yet the visions that come to the singer are unsettling and ominous. The line "behind the forests (what do they hide?)" creates a sense of mystery and foreboding, as if there is something lurking just out of sight. The singer's nightmares reveal glimpses of this hidden darkness, leading them to feel that this place, though unsettling, is somehow familiar.

The use of imagery in the lyrics is striking, from the burning candles to the hidden forests to the "formations of horizons dark." These visuals all contribute to the uncanny atmosphere of the song, making the listener feel as if they are being drawn into a dark, otherworldly realm. The use of repetition in the lyrics also adds to this effect, as the singer seems to be caught in a cycle of seeking and searching, always drawn back to the same mysterious and unsettling place.

I see over there dark woods.
And I hear sad voices cry.
I see the future's black shadows,
Dance before my eyes.
I hear the emptiness in the wolfs hunting howl.
And feel myself drawned - to the unknown
Up there
I see a sad world.
I see a dark horizon.

Mortiis used to be so awesome. I remember listening to this stuff when I was about 13 and it was the most mysterious otherwordly thing. It's a shame I never got to see any era 1 stuff played live, too young for that, I just got The Smell of Rain tours. I never really liked any of the albums after that so much.

Iskalla I met him in 1998 and tell you he was a very cool person, dont look at all as on the pictures with his long nose and ears. It was already not more the early days but still memorable. Now its sucks totaly, I m very disapointed, but anyway. the old stuff is.... the spirit of black metal then...

Teemu Jaakkola

You're now in luck, since he's performing exactly this album live now days... ;)

This stuff was never meant to be played live. I have just attended his era 1 live show and it's only a small glimpse of the greatness what you feel while listening to the impeccable studio recording, sitting in your dark room at lonely and cold november night. But I showed up anyway to support the guy, who I've been appreciating for 16 years.
