reisene til grotter og ødemarker
Mortiis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mortiis's song "Reisene til Grotter og Ødemarker" translate to "The Journeys to Caverns and Wastelands" in English. The song is about a vision that the singer has had about a kingdom that encompasses the whole universe. The singer finds himself in the midst of a circle of cosmic chaos, and he walks through this world as if in a dream.

He then states that the words of this dream shall be written anew, but not by hands of this earth. In this case, it seems that the idea is that the words are being written by cosmic influences, or by a force beyond this world. The singer then says that he will travel into the caverns and wastelands, as if to explore and discover what might exist there.

The lyrics are quite surreal and dreamlike, indicating that the vision that the singer has experienced is a powerful and beguiling one. It seems that the vision is meant to be both frightening and enticing, drawing the singer in and making him want to explore it further.

thanx CCProse! I used this with my class. The kids loved it. You're helping rebuild America!

There is something very comforting about "being read-to"-- maybe because it feels like when I was a child and my mom or dad read to me... and add to that the peaceful comfort of HDT's words, and its just about perfect. I bought this audiobook and have it "running" in the car. It's something I can read/listen to again and again. I love holding a book in my hands and reading the words, but also enjoy this added dimension. (And it is okay to be in love with someone who has been dead for 150 years.)
