Drummer Kenneth Kapstad joined Motorpsycho as a full member late in 2007.
Their new double-CD "Black Hole / Blank Canvas" was released 17th/20th march 2006 in Europe. The album has been getting generally positive reviews, proving the skills of the arguably most innovative Norwegian band of the last decade. Bent Sæther plays drums on this record, except on the track "You Loose", which is played by Jacco van Rooij who also played drums for the band on a short tour in spring 2006.
In activity since 1990, Motorpsycho have released 10 full length albums, as well as a number of EPs, a couple of live albums, and some side-project releases. Over the years, they moved from their initial mixture of metal, grunge and hardcore music, playing almost any kind of musical genre: indie, pop, psych rock, lo-fi, stoner, avantgarde, classic hard rock, acoustic, fusion, jazz rock and country rock as part of the The International Tussler Society.
2008 saw the release of the album, "Little Lucid Moments", containing 4 songs lasting between 11-21 minutes. The release was followed by a European tour in April and May 2008.
Early 2009, Motorpsycho recorded the Patrik Fitzgerald cover Punch with Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys on vocals. Jello Biafra have, according to Norwegian broadcaster NRK been a fan of Motorpsycho for 16-17 years.
In the autumn of 2009 they released a vinyl-only record, Child of the Future and in January 2010 they released Heavy Metal Fruit, their first album with an outside producer.
On May 23 2016 it was announced on the band's website that Kenneth Kapstad will be leaving Motorpsycho after nine years with the band. The band did not announce a replacement, with supposed upcoming gigs in Brazil and a 40 show stint as the houseband in writer Carl Frode Tiller's play "Begynnelser" at Trøndelag Teater in Trondheim from September 2 2016.
However, on the second day of 2017 the fans could greet the long-awaited news of a replacement with delight. Swedish Trondheim resident Tomas Järmyr who has also played in acts such as Zu, Yodok, Yodok lll, Sunswitch and with Aidan Baker. He also studies at the music conservatory at NTNU – like Kapstad, Ståle Storløkken, Ola Kvernberg, Ketil Møster "and just about every decent musician we’ve worked with over the last decade before him" (quote Bent Sæther, January 2 2017). This piece of news was also supplemented with hints of an upcoming album in the fall of 2017. The album, titled "The Tower" was released on September 8th 2017.

Motorpsycho Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
in the afterglow
the night felt so right
let you go
breathing light
breaking light
have known
the waves would carry
you home?
In the first stanza, the singer refers to someone who has dove into the water and is now floating in the afterglow. The night felt right but the singer let this person go. The second stanza describes the person breathing light and breaking light. The final stanza then reflects on how the waves carried this person home, a surprise to whoever is reflecting on the situation.
The lyrics appear to be about someone who has gone through something transformative, perhaps spiritual in nature, represented by the imagery of diving and floating in the water. The singer seems to have let this person go, which may indicate a relationship that was left behind. The final lines suggest that this person has found a way back home, either literally or figuratively, thanks to the power of the waves.

You dove and you float
You immersed yourself and drifted aimlessly
in the afterglow
basking in the warm glow of recent memories
the night felt so right
The atmosphere was perfect for you
let you go
You released yourself from all worries and insecurities
breathing light
Inhaling bright new opportunities for self-growth
breaking light
Shattering old patterns and ways of thinking
who would
Who could have predicted this transformative experience?

who wouldve thought that I see you like this
you never told me bout the sights that Ive missed
now you're everywhere
damn all your faults, I can't see them no more
you bled right open, I can see to your core
and it's beautiful
shut down shut up

relief is painted on the eyes that I see
you changed you face before looking at me
now Im scared to death
my vision blurred, now I can't see what's right

it don't matter much...
you're faceless anyhow
leaving them to comprehend
you tie a rope to the eternal blue

I bought this album some years ago. And I gave it away. A girl liked it and she took it home. Spread the word. Tell the world. Motorpsycho deserves immortality.

I love this song! It may be my favorite song. Timothy's Monster is a great album, and it has a song that is in the same league as Watersound, The Golden Core.

Can't believe I slept on such a great band for so long! My punishment? Most of their stuff is out of print, at least to a strictly-vinyl guy like me. I have, in recent months, acquired "Little Lucid Moments," "Heavy Metal Fruit," "Still Life With Eggplant," and "Behind The Sun." But this earlier stuff is far more elusive. Gotta just sit and hope he gets reissued someday. It is amazing how this band has progressed, sonically. Such a great band, my current favorite.
