1) Must started when Australian-born Dave Ireland moved to London and met wandering drummer Reuben Alexander. Ireland convinced Alexander to work with him at a club one night, which resulted in a three-day party that ended with the two musicians jamming. They auditioned countless bassists until finally German transplant Kai Lemke filled the spot. They gigged around London and were met enthusiastically by rock fans, although the dominant dance scene in the town often overshadowed their efforts. Their first wide release, 2002's Androgynous Jesus, was also the first opportunity they had to present their music outside of Britain.

I'll Find What I've Been Seeking
Must Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Here in the madness I am released
Upon the rhythm of an ancient melody
Inside a trance that catapults me
Yeah I wander
I wander
And in myself I'm sure
I'll find you and I'll keep you close
I'm still reaching out here don't you know
What's above is down below
And I'm beginning to understand that my demons are
Really my friends
But you won't see the bastards dragging me down
For I'm accepting their gifts of ascent and insight
Fair is not and foul is a place
From which wings emanate
And karma reigns
The lyrics of Must's song "I'll Find What I've Been Seeking" present a contemplative perspective on the struggles and madness of life. The opening lines, "Within the struggle I'm finding peace / Here in the madness I am released," convey the idea that amidst the chaos, there can be moments of stillness and liberation. The singer then describes the experience of being immersed in an ancient melody and being transported into a trance-like state. The repetition of "I wander" adds to the sense of searching and journeying.
The chorus of the song is a declaration of hope and determination: "I'll find what I've been seeking before too long / I'll find you and I'll keep you close / I'm still reaching out here don't you know / What's above is down below." The lyrics suggest that what the singer is seeking may be a sense of connection or belonging, represented by the desire to find and keep someone close. The phrase "What's above is down below" could be interpreted as a reference to the idea that everything is interconnected, and what one seeks is already present in some form.
The song's bridge offers a perspective shift on the notion of demons. Instead of seeing them as something to be feared or battled, the singer is beginning to understand that they can be allies in the journey towards enlightenment: "And I'm beginning to understand that my demons are / Really my friends / But you won't see the bastards dragging me down / For I'm accepting their gifts of ascent and insight." This section of the song hints at a spiritual or philosophical dimension to the lyrics.
Overall, "I'll Find What I've Been Seeking" is a introspective song that invites reflection on the nature of life's struggles and the possibility of finding peace and connection amidst them.
