Bender
Mykey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Think I'm gonna have a yard sale
Think I'm gonna sell everything I own
That make you show up at my door?
Gettin' tired of the coattails
Playing darts at the Foxfire, oh
Should have stopped when you found me on your floor
Found me on your floor
Where should I go?
Where should I go?

If I had a time machine
I'd fix the things that I don't need to fix
I'd worry I'd write over my story
And if I had some time for me
I said I'd spend it all on things to fix
Well surely, isn't that what worries you the most?

Stop working that retail
Smoking reds gon' find new things to fear
When did that mirror stop lookin' clear?
Don't need another bender
Nothing else at the bottom of that beer
I know that's easy to say from here
Easy to say from here
Where should I go from here?
Where should I go from here?

But if I had a time machine
I'd fix the things that I don't need to fix
I'd worry I'd write over my story
And if I had some time for me

I said I'd spend it all on things to fix
Surely, isn't that what worries you the most?

Overall Meaning

In "Bender," Mykey expresses his frustration with his current situation and the people around him. He contemplates having a yard sale and selling everything he owns, possibly as a way to start over. He is tired of being around people who only associate with him for their own benefit, and even mentions playing darts at a specific location where he probably feels trapped and unhappy. However, he acknowledges that the solutions to his problems are not always that simple, and even if he had a time machine, he worries he would still make mistakes. Despite this, he still wishes to fix the things he can and grow from his experiences.

The song’s chorus is a reflection of the regret Mykey feels about where he is in life. He wishes he could go back in time to fix his mistakes and focus more on himself. He admits that worrying about fixing things may cause him anxiety, but it's worth the effort to make things better. Mykey also acknowledges the impact that alcohol has had on his life and how it has contributed to his bad decisions. He tells himself he doesn't need another bender and tries to move forward.
