The lyrics of Najwa Karam’s song ‘Dalil’ touch on themes such as love, heartbreak, and the agony of unexpressed feelings. The singer describes how she longs for reciprocity from her lover’s side, as she sees the same desire reflected in his eyes. She regrets not having been able to communicate her feelings effectively, and now fears the consequences of her inaction.
In the opening lines, the singer states that her eyes are fixated on her lover's, pleading with him to understand her emotions. She wishes that his heart could comprehend what hers is trying to convey. The frustration of unrequited love is evident in the lines "albi 3 albak ya raitak 2eli," wherein she expresses a longing for her lover to feel the same way about her. She even goes on to say that she would have been saved if only he had known what she had been feeling.
In the next verse, the singer looks back on the past and muses about the missed opportunities to express her feelings. She regrets having taken the initiative and wishes that the lover had done it instead. The lines "Sho sar el msa ta w3et b 2sa, W 3younak m5ebaie," evoke a sense of longing and despair, as the singer acknowledges the misery of holding back her emotions. The chorus conveys the singer's doubt and confusion, as she questions where her lying heart is leading her toward.
