What's really mind-blowing is that Bach wasn't even that famous while he was alive. His sons were more famous than he was. He was severely underestimated and it wasn't until much later that people started recognizing him. I bet he would have never imagined that the first attempt to contact extraterrestrial life would contain his music. Not to mention, the golden record contains more Bach songs than anyone else.

yes, absolutely mind-boggling.

JF RV

It should have contained more Bach!

All true but Bach wasn't underestimated! Mozart, Beethoven and all the others studied Bach's techniques from childhood onwards. They all had tremendous respect for him. His sons were quite famous. CPE became Mozart's father figure and JC made a big career in England where is buried. Only "insiders" knew JS Bach back then until Mendelssohn kicked off the Bach renaissance which lasts to the present day. Today we know that daddy Bach was by far the greatest musical genius of all time.

This work exudes joy and hope. Gorgeous and quite fitting to be the first piece of music on the Voyager Golden Record.

Amazing. This piece will still be playing even after millions of years.

Four and a half billion years from now, when the sun exhausts its fuel and swells to engulf the earth, this expression will still be out there, traveling four and a half billion years. That is, if it’s not intercepted first. Imagine, Fox. If another civilization out there were to hear this, they would think "what a wonderful place the earth must be."

but if they came here in 2020 and asked to hear today's music, they would probably annihilate us, and would be right to do it
