Five O'Clock Plane
Nelson Lyrics

I will understand what I did to send your love away
Someday, maybe one day
I'll see through your eyes what made you cry and run away
Cause I, I feel a changing of the seasons
Wonder why, should not givin' me a reason
Before you take that five o'clock plane, that's leaving
I'm so tired of tryin' to count eight, nine, ten ways I'll be dyin'
If you should take that five o'clock plane, hey, hey
Someday, baby one day
As we reminisce we'll laugh at all this hearsay
Someday, maybe one day
You'll apologize when you've realized
I never lied to you anyway
Will I, just be a footnote on forever?
Testify before you bury all our treasure
Are we one or two far gone to say three words, "I love you"
Before you take that five o'clock plane, that's leaving
I'm so tired of tryin' to count eight, nine, ten ways I'll be dyin'
If you should take that five o'clock plane, hey, hey
Before you take that five o'clock plane
All those nights we held each other
Body, mind and soul
I can't believe you'd ever let that go
Are we one or two far gone to say three words, "I love you"
Before you take that five o'clock plane, that's leaving
I'm so tired, tired of tryin' to count eight, nine, ten ways I'll be dyin'
If you should take that five o'clock plane, hey, hey
If you should take that five o'clock plane
Are we one or two far gone
If you should take that plane
Before you take that five o'clock plane, hey, hey
The song "5 O'Clock Plane" by Nelson is a heartfelt ballad about a man who is desperately trying to save his relationship with his lover. The lyrics speak about the pain and regrets he has after his lover left him, and how he wishes to understand the reasons behind her departure. He wonders if there could be a chance to reconcile before she takes that five o'clock plane which is departing soon. He reminisces about the time they have spent together and how much he wants to hold on to that love. Despite the efforts he has made to try to save their love, he feels like they are too far apart to say "I Love You" and hopes that someday they will laugh together about all the misunderstandings.
The song's message is relatable to many who have experienced the pain of losing someone special. The song is about wanting to make amends and missing someone who was once important in your life. The lyrics are emotionally powerful and can touch the heart of anyone who is going through a difficult time.

I can’t help but think that even tho this is obviously a love song about a woman leaving, it’s also a little bit about their grief in losing their father, Rick Nelson, who died in a plane crash on New Year’s Eve 1985.
