Shangri-La
Nelson Riddle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your kisses take me to Shangri-La
Each kiss is magic that makes my little world a Shangri-La
A land of bluebirds and fountains and nothing to do
But cling to an angel that looks like you
And when you hold me, how warm you are
Be mine, my darling, and spend your life with me in Shangri-La
For anywhere you are is Shangri-La
Your kisses take me to Shangri-La
Each kiss is magic that makes my little world a Shangri-La
A land of bluebirds and fountains and nothing to do
But cling to an angel that looks like you
And when you hold me, how warm you are

Be mine, my darling, and spend your life with me in Shangri-La
For anywhere you are is Shangri-La

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nelson Riddle's song "Shangri-La" describe a feeling of deep love and contentment that is so strong that it transports the singer to a world of pure bliss. With each kiss from their beloved, the singer feels their world transform into a magical place filled with bluebirds and fountains, and where they can do nothing but hold onto their angelic partner. The lyrics are a testament to the power of love to transport us to a place of unadulterated happiness and joy, where we feel safe and secure in the arms of our significant other.

The use of the phrase "Shangri-La" in the song is particularly interesting, as it refers to a fictional paradise depicted in the 1933 novel "Lost Horizon" by James Hilton. In the novel, Shangri-La is a utopian place where everything is perfect, and people live for centuries in peace and contentment. The song's lyrics tap into the idea of a romanticized paradise that is only accessible through love and intimacy, and it speaks to the power of human connection to bring us to a place of pure happiness.

MAKES ME FEEL YOUNG ONCE AGAIN -- MISS DANCING TO

I travel regularly between my home town and that of my sister, some 800 km (8-9 hours)away on the far north coast of New South Wales. Invariably my music is "Easy Listening", courtesy of an MP3 plug-in, and that EZ music comprises 90% Percy Faith, Ray Conniff and Nelson Riddle. Friends think I'd go to sleep but I find that it is calming and perfect for a long drive in a nice car (Holden Monaro CV8Z - look it up on Google) whether late at night or on a sunny day.

My friend Chuck in Arizona will be happy with your comments because he is a BIG fan of Ray Conniff ! ( I like Ray too by the way ;-) Thanks for your comments and have a nice weekend Claudine. - Walter

Nice, but I prefer one hundred times Ray Conniff's version of this track... Of course, driving on a sunny American highway, in a luxuous car, with that beautiful music in the ears... would be great! Regards, Claudine

"Not feasible with recent petrol prices any more." Exactly the reason I sold the Monaro two weeks ago, Chuck. :( :( A great machine, one I enjoyed for a couple of years but time to let go now that I've retired. :) Bruce

I can perfectly picture it ....! Make sure to take Rasmus with you then and open the side window .... A dog with his nose in the wind would make the image complete ! walt

Getting Comfortable
by
Travis of Bickley

Everybody wanted a piece of him.
Not because he was violent, because he was. Not because he was brutal. Indeed he was. Not because he was a sex machine. Just ask any female, any.

Everybody wanted a piece of him, because he was pieces of them all.

They wanted him for his intellectual prowess. For none could best him.
They wanted him for his philantrophy. He gave himself away.
Completely.

They wanted his empathy. He could cry with the best of them: the bullied clowns,  the brow-beaten ne'er-do-wells, the blonde bimbos, the stuttering, fumbling child, the eternally lost idiot savant.

Everybody wanted the peace of him.
For he was the stoic super human, always in control.

They all wanted him for his shame, mostly... Because in all of the successes of his spectral existence, he felt as if he had lost at everyone of his endeavors. His humility.

His humility, like all his other pieces, was as authentic as  the shame he professed,  because in all his recollections of any effort of his, he had always failed to ease even the most minuscule sufferings of any other being.

And as for his peace,  he knew nothing of it.

But just like him, they kept trying.
They wanted to get Comfortable, but he wasn't. Comfortable, yes, numb? No!
