A performer since the age of seven (the age at which he joined the Broadway cast of Annie Get Your Gun), Nicholas made his songwriting debut in 2002, when a holiday tune he'd co-written with his father found its way onto a Broadway Christmas album. A contract with Columbia Records followed two years later. Nicholas began prepping for his solo career by writing material with his older brothers, Kevin and Joseph, who eventually climbed aboard as permanent partners. Nick's solo project thus blossomed into a full-fledged band, and the siblings aptly named themselves the Jonas Brothers.
It took several years for the Jonas Brothers to find an adoring audience. It's About Time, the band's 2006 debut, was a commercial flop, and Columbia Records dropped the group one year later. Signing with Hollywood Records in 2007, the band began attracting new fans -- most of them young and female -- by establishing a presence in the Disney world. They appeared on the network's television shows, earned their own series, starred in a made-for-TV movie with Disney starlet Demi Lovato, and sold close to two million copies of their self-titled sophomore album. They replicated that feat one year later with A Little Bit Longer and returned in 2009 with Lines, Vines and Trying Times. All of the albums featured heavy contributions from Nick, who not only led the songwriting process but also played a wide variety of instruments, from drums to keyboard to guitar.
Taking a rare break from the band, Nick Jonas began working with several other musicians on a side project in late 2009. Members from Prince's New Power Generation were recruited to join the lineup, including Michael Bland and Tommy Barbarella, and the group dubbed itself Nick Jonas & the Administration before making its debut in early 2010 with the album Who I Am. The record performed respectably, peaking at three on the U.S. charts on its way to sales of 151,000, but there were soon suggestions that Nick was planning to return to the Jonas Brothers fold. This didn't happen. A 2013 tour was scrapped just prior to its October launch and, soon afterward, the band split. Nick Jonas regrouped with a 2014 solo tour followed by the November release of an eponymous album. Over the course of 2014, Jonas gained momentum, generating the Top 10 single "Jealous," which also topped Billboard's dance charts, as did "Chains " and "Levels," a bonus track from 2015's Nick Jonas X2.
In the Summer of 2016, Jonas returned with a new full-length effort, Last Year Was Complicated, featuring production by Jason Evigan, Mattman & Robin, Sir Nolan, and others. Included on the album was "Close," a duet with Tove Lo, and "Bacon," featuring Ty Dolla $ign. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. Also around this time, Jonas returned to acting, starring in the erotic thriller Careful What You Wish For and the fraternity hazing drama Goat. In 2017, he released the singles "Remember I Told You," featuring Anne-Marie and Mike Posner, and "Find You." Also that year, he collaborated with Nicki Minaj on the track "Bom Bidi Bom" off the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.

Post it for the world to see
People that you don't know
Who the hell you tryna please?
If you lack a credit card
Will you never see the shot?
Doctor, doctor, hide the scars
Those Hype Williams videos
Taught you how to wear your clothes
Drop it low, touchin' your toes
When did all these good girls decide to be bad?
Dancin' up on the table, gettin' back at your dad
Who's the asshole that told you
That's what you had to do
Yeah, when did all these good girls decide to be bad?
You know I love your skin, but is it deeper than that?
Don't wanna blame you for it, 'cause that's what we ask of you
Yeah, but when did all these good girls
Goin' out to the girls in the club who put it down
You know sexy isn't just what you see, yeah
I ain't mad a little game of run around
As long as you can keep up with me
If you lack a credit card
Will you never see the shot?
Doctor, doctor, hide the scars
Please, please
Those Hype Williams videos
Taught you how to wear your clothes
Drop it low, touchin' your toes
When did all these good girls decide to be bad?
Dancin' up on the table, gettin' back at your dad
Who's the asshole that told you
That's what you had to do? Yeah
Yeah, when did all these good girls decide to be bad?
You know I love your skin, but is it deeper than that?
Don't wanna blame you for it, 'cause that's what we ask of you
(That's what we ask)
But when did all these good girls?
But when did all these good girls?
I used to be too bad for the good girls
Now I'm too good for the bad girls, no middle ground
Funny how big cities turn to little towns
When you tend to get around, I think we should sit it down
Girl you way too good to be in here
I see what they don't see and see it clear
I think we should prolly take a little time out
You know, slow it down, clear your mind out
Figure out what you're into
You don't strike me as a club girl, you seem more residential
To keep it real, I just want a bad girl tonight
When did all these good girls decide to be bad? (And a good girl for life, all I seen was potential)
You know I love your skin, but it's much deeper than that
And gotta thank you for it, for showin' me all of you
When did all these good girls decide to be bad?
Dancin' up on the table, gettin' back at your dad
Who's the asshole that told you
That's what you had to do? Yeah
Yeah, when did all these good girls decide to be bad?
You know I love your skin, but is it deeper than that?
Don't wanna blame you for it, 'cause that's what we ask of you
(That's what we ask)
Yeah, but when did all these good girls
Nick Jonas and Big Sean's song Good Girls ponders the shift in the behavior and choices of young women. The song emphasizes the societal pressure that young women face to maintain a certain image and meet certain expectations. The lyrics express the frustration of the singers towards the new norm in which good girls are now compelled to prove themselves by appearing provocative and caught up in the party lifestyle to be truly "bad". The chorus asks the question "when did all these good girls decide to be bad?" and then proceeds to criticize the message that tells them that they need to behave in a certain way in order to be accepted by others.
The lyrics delve into the subliminal message that popular culture and the music industry can send to young people, especially women, that can cause them to feel like they are compelled to be something they are not, and to act in ways that do not truly represent them. The song explores how these pressures can result in the loss of genuine identity and individuality. Through the lyrics, Nick Jonas and Big Sean urge young women to find themselves, embrace their true identity, and not feel the need to conform to certain societal expectations in order to be deemed "good enough".
Overall, the message of the song is to encourage young women to not feel the pressure to be something that they are not, and to embrace their uniqueness and individuality.
