Together with the band Nazar, she represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978, where she shared 18th place with Seija Simola from Finland. Since 1997 she has been Turkey's National Ambassador to UNICEF.
In 1998 she was awarded the honorary title of State Artist of Turkey.

The lyrics of Nilüfer's Son Perde depict the pain and sorrow of a breakup. The opening lines "Ayrılık kol geziyor, acılar pek yakında" means that separation is looming and pain is inevitable. The singer reveals that she has seen a similar situation before, "Bu filmi görmüştüm ben, senden önce defalarca". She tries to console herself and stop herself from crying by saying "Ağlama yüreğim yar gelmez, gelse de artık farketmez", or even if her lover returns, it doesn't matter anymore.
The next lines "Ha döndü dönecek ömür bitiyor, kış ortasında bahar gelmez" signifies that the time to move on has come and she will no longer wait for her ex-lover. She asks how many more blows and curtains she has to go through "Ah kaçıncı darbe bu, ah kaçıncı perde", and pleads for her heart to understand and speak the truth "Anlamıyor yüreğim gel de kendin söyle". She knows that this is the final curtain call, "Bilirim son perde bu, hadi git sakın durma, tanıdım birçok giden, senden önce vefasızca", and instructs her lover to leave and never look back, as she has met many other people who were unfaithful just like him.
Overall, the lyrics of Son Perde conveys a sense of acceptance and resolution to move on from a past relationship.
