Head Like a Hole
Nine Inch Nails Lyrics

God money, I'll do anything for you
God money, just tell me what you want me to
God money, nail me up against the wall
God money, don't want everything he wants it all

No, you can't take it
No, you can't take it
No, you can't take that away from me
No, you can't take it
No, you can't take it
No, you can't take that away from me

Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control
Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control

Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve
Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve

God money's not looking for the cure
God money's not concerned about the sick among the pure
God money, let's go dancing on the backs of the bruised
God money's not one to choose

No, you can't take it
No, you can't take it
No, you can't take that away from me
No, you can't take it
No, you can't take it
No, you can't take that away from me

Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control
Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control

Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve
Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve

Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve
Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve

Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control
Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control

Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control
Head like a hole
Black as your soul
I'd rather die than give you control

Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve
Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve

Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve
Bow down before the one you serve
You're going to get what you deserve

@Alex Quintana Hahaha.... right.. we all probably have something similar...
I have to say... I am very fortunate that way...
When I met my wife... I was a trucker for the company where she worked. An owner operator... I was a crazy partier...biker... basically trouble... and that attracts many women. They like the bad boy image...
But in reality I was also a responsible business owner. I was tired at 30 of the games and bullshit. I recognized the health bennies of a more stable existence....
I saved her from an abusive marriage... and she saved me from myself...
Im still a work in progress... but were still together almost 36 years later...
Some of my childish ..... tendencies annoy her.....
I guess.... but its all good.
She likes the motorcycles still....and people ask if we just got married...
Hahaha.. yea...
Im 66 with a lot to be thankful for.
My brain is 25....
Im still in shape.... but its starting to hurt trying to remain strong and in the fight..
Old just creeps up on you.

Even though the "Head like hole" title doesn't quite compute with me, it's amazing what Trent did with this. My understanding is that he did all of this himself. The background beat, the "bass" (It's hard to peg synthesized industrial music) and the wall of sound that exists here is amazing.

Way ahead of his time.

But his best work, in my humble opinion, was "Hurt." And Jonny Cash was so impressed and infatuated with the song that he stole it and made it his own. (In a perfectly gentlemanly fashion) which left Trent scratching his head.

Trent's creation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQRmCy6LfjI

Jonny Cash's tip of the hat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AHCfZTRGiI

I fear that very few reading this will understand that Jonny's take was highly religious and also rooted in Appalachia.

But if you take only one thing away from that song, it is this: Heavy drug use puts emotional development on hold, so much so that a 19 year old man can find himself trapped in a 40 year old body while still being 19 years old, in terms of emotional development.

This is what Trent meant with the verse: "You are someone else; I am still right here."

If this song was released today it would still be ahead of it's time.

@I OWN YOU There's tons of weird music out there nowadays because the internet has allowed anyone to release and monetise their music without going through a record company. The idea that there's less opportunity for different music to get noticed today is insane.

I OWN YOU

IMO it wouldn't be released today except underground. If you notice, today's music is all crossover appeal to as many people as humanly possible for record sales. This whole album was awesome but I really doubt it would be promoted because it is too extreme compared to todays music.

@All I Wanted was a Cherry Pepsi Trent never thought of or referred to NIN as industrial. It was influenced by that stuff, but not trying to be industrial.

This video really feels like the absolute dead-center of the transition from the 80s to the 90s.

Rob Eaton

I remember when this was considered Techno

I OWN YOU

The song itself was the transition out of sexual oriented hard rock into something different.

Rando Video

It's far more influential than people realize. Nobody had done anything like this before.
