1). Nixon, from Halmstad, Sweden, is a project of Roger Gunnarsson (Free Loan Investments, The Garlands, Cloetta Paris...), and perhaps the one he is best known for. Gunnarsson began recording songs as Nixon with his cousin when he was a child in the mid 1980s. Some time later in the mid 1990s, he and friend Henrik PĂĄhle recorded a Nixon demo which caught the attention of a few labels in their native Sweden and North America. Following a few EP releases, Nixon made their full-length debut with Only Ugly People Smoke in 2000, which also featured vocal and songwriting contributions from Anna Issakson. Gunnarsson continued to make Nixon records, now mostly alone, into the 21st century. A second full-length appeared in 2002 entitled November 1985 but after the Snow Day EP the following year, the project went on an unoffical hiatus and Gunnarsson continued to work with his other bands. In 2011, a new Nixon compilation of previously released material entitled Anorak Christmas came out on Anorak Records of France. The sleevenotes of this release announced that there would be a Nixon 7" EP of brand new recordings released on Cloudberry Records. This record eventually surfaced in late 2012 and is entitled This Town.
2). Nixon is a rock band formed in Almeria, Spain, by longtime friends in 2010. Previously known as Scaramusa, the band currently consists of Alex (lead vocals, guitar) Daniel Girona (lead guitar), Pedro Gil (drums, percussion, synthesizers), Juanmi (guitars, synthesizers), and Sergio (bass, synthesizers and backing vocals).
The quintet has toured widely throughout Spain supporting acts such as Second, Ninos Mutantes and Full. Following a two-year tour, the band released in 2006 it's full-length studio album titled El Ultimo Fuego after a successful crowdfunding campaign. This record made the band earn an unique sound by the use of synthesizers and analog drum machines.
They received attention due to their appearance in Los Conciertos de Radio3, reaching a huge audience with their performance at the 20th anniversary of Sonorama Ribera festival, Weekend Beach or Granada Sound among many others.
Alongside their critical acclaim and promising future, Nixon has found its place as an emerging act necessary in the Spanish music scene. Their brand of dark indie rock is commonly compared to the sound of bands such as Depeche Mode, Foals and U2.
Never Never
Nixon Lyrics

The sure thrill feels like a chain reaction
I don’t do this as my career
This one goes out to fans that are here
The ones who make sure every word I write
Is played out loud
In a car or a crowd, sing it out loud
And always remember
It’s now or never, now or never tonight
It’s not forever so remember this night
Days go by way too fast
My memories from the past just won’t last
I’m unaware I was upsetting you
That’s something that I would never mean to do
It’s now or never, now or never tonight
It’s not forever so remember this night
It’s now or never (It’s now or never!)
It’s now or never (It’s now or never!)
It’s now or never, now or never tonight
It’s not forever so remember this night
Do you remember when the world was so small
They were falling but we were calling
It’s now or never, now or never tonight
It’s not forever so remember this night
So live for the moment
As the last day of your life
It’s now or never
Tonight, Tonight!
The lyrics of Nixon's song "Never Never" depict a deep connection to music driven by passion rather than a desire for commercial success. The artist expresses a genuine love for creating music, highlighting the emotional impact it has on both the performer and the fans. The mention of a "chain reaction" suggests that the energy and joy derived from making music are infectious and spread among listeners, creating a powerful experience for all involved. The acknowledgment of the fans who support the music and sing along to the lyrics emphasizes the communal aspect of music, where it becomes a shared experience that resonates deeply with those who appreciate it.
The song delves into themes of fleeting time and the impermanence of memories. The artist reflects on how swiftly days pass and how memories can fade, recognizing unintentional hurt caused to others in the past. This introspective moment adds layers of complexity to the song, showcasing vulnerability and a desire for understanding and reconciliation. The repetition of "It's now or never" reinforces a sense of urgency and the need to seize the moment, emphasizing the importance of cherishing the present and making meaningful connections with others before it's too late.
The bridge of the song shifts focus to a nostalgic reminiscence of simpler times when the world seemed smaller and more manageable. The contrast between the chaos of the world and the stability of personal connections is highlighted, suggesting that amidst turmoil, there can be solace found in relationships that endure despite external challenges. The imagery of "They were falling but we were calling" evokes a sense of solidarity and resilience, emphasizing the strength gained from standing together in the face of adversity.
The lyrics culminate in a call to live fully in the present moment and cherish each day as if it were the last. The sense of immediacy and intensity conveyed in the final lines - "As the last day of your life, It’s now or never, Tonight, Tonight!" - encapsulates the overarching message of the song. It urges listeners to embrace the now, make the most of every opportunity, and create lasting memories that will resonate long after the music fades. In essence, "Never Never" serves as a reminder of the power of music to unite, heal, and inspire, urging all to live authentically and with purpose.
