Their first three albums ('In a Time of Blood and Fire', 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' and 'The Sacred Talisman') feature the former vocalist Anders Zackrisson, while the newer albums are sung by Johnny Lindkvist. Also the musical style has changed a bit during the years; some demo's were something more like death metal, but then the three first cd releases pure melodic power metal, and on "Afterlife" they took a bit heavier approach with influences of true heavy metal like Masterplan and Dream evil and even some thrash metal riffs, though the melodic choruses were kept right in the core of the songs.
They have released a few more albums since, with the latest ones being 'Grand Illusion' that came in 2005 and '8th Sin' that came out in 2007. The band keeps on fighting on and remains one of Scandinavia's best known power metal bands.
On June 21st, 2008 it was announced that guitarist Nils Norberg has left the band. On May 9th, 2010, Chris Rörland joined Nocturnal Rites. A video of him playing and Fredrik Mannberg talking a bit about him can be seen here.
Still Alive
Nocturnal Rites Lyrics

Won't take another blow, and,
I'll let you know
I'll never kneel or falter
‘cause you are not the only
I'm not crawling back again
I'm still alive
And I know I'm alive enough
To stand my ground
So there is nothing to revive –
I'm still alive
I tried to wash away those filthy lies
Betrayed and lead astray,
I just walked away
In my darkest hour
I still hear you breathing
Well, you won't get the best of me
The lyrics to Nocturnal Rites' song "Still Alive" convey a message of strength, resilience, and determination. The first verse describes a feeling of standing up against an impending "thunder storm," refusing to "take another blow," and declaring that the singer "will never kneel or falter." The second verse speaks to the aftermath of betrayal and disappointment, but the singer is still standing and declaring themselves "still alive."
The chorus is particularly powerful, with lyrics such as "Though I'm old, trite, and weary / And I know I'm alive enough / To stand my ground / So there is nothing to revive – / I'm still alive." The message is clear: no matter what has happened or how much adversity the singer has faced, they refuse to give up or give in. The repeated declaration that they are "still alive" is a reminder that, no matter what, they have persevered and survived.
Overall, the lyrics to "Still Alive" are a powerful message of resilience and determination. The use of strong imagery and declarative statements makes the song particularly effective in conveying its message of strength and survival.
