Their first three albums ('In a Time of Blood and Fire', 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' and 'The Sacred Talisman') feature the former vocalist Anders Zackrisson, while the newer albums are sung by Johnny Lindkvist. Also the musical style has changed a bit during the years; some demo's were something more like death metal, but then the three first cd releases pure melodic power metal, and on "Afterlife" they took a bit heavier approach with influences of true heavy metal like Masterplan and Dream evil and even some thrash metal riffs, though the melodic choruses were kept right in the core of the songs.
They have released a few more albums since, with the latest ones being 'Grand Illusion' that came in 2005 and '8th Sin' that came out in 2007. The band keeps on fighting on and remains one of Scandinavia's best known power metal bands.
On June 21st, 2008 it was announced that guitarist Nils Norberg has left the band. On May 9th, 2010, Chris Rörland joined Nocturnal Rites. A video of him playing and Fredrik Mannberg talking a bit about him can be seen here.
The Flame Will Never Die
Nocturnal Rites Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The painting is fading now
The color's wearing thin
Her eyes in the broken glass
A stare that chills within
She cries only crimson tears
The eyes are burning with fire
Made her strong
Once deceived
Made her wrong
[Chorus:]
Sorrow and pain
Closed her eyes to walk through the unknown
Nothing's in vain
'Cause the flame...
The flame will never die!
Oh...
The lines in her ashen face
Reveal a heart torn asunder
Twisted ones
Bring the pain
Throw your first stone again
[Chorus]
The lyrics of Nocturnal Rites's song The Flame Will Never Die evoke feelings of sorrow and pain as it paints the picture of a fading painting. The color is wearing thin, and the eyes in the broken glass stare out with a chilling expression. However, the lyrics speak of a strength that is born from a belief that once existed, which has now faded. The lyrics hint at betrayal or deception, which have made the subject of the painting wrong, but the fire in her eyes still burns bright, and she cries only crimson tears, which suggests that her spirit remains unbroken regardless of the pain and sorrow she has endured.
The chorus speaks to the resilience and the strength that the subject of the painting possesses. She has closed her eyes to walk through the unknown, but she knows that nothing in life is in vain, and she has the flame that burns deep inside her. The lyrics suggest that the subject's heart has been torn asunder by twisted ones, but despite the pain and the hurt, she remains strong. The lyrics close with a challenge, asking those who would judge her to throw their first stone, for she is unbreakable.
