Initially their sound was a fusion of psychedelic rock with traditional folk sounds, Brazilian as well as Latin, a style that is most evident in É Ferro na Boneca (1970). Their music began to gravitate more towards MPB, particularly due to João Gilberto's influence, who frequently visited the group. Their 1972 album Acabou Chorare contained the classic Preta Pretinha. The group had a strong hippie image and in same year, they moved to a community in Jacarepaguá. They left Som Livre and joined the Continental label in 1973. The band released records until their break-up in 1979.
The album "Acabou Chorare" was elected in 2007 as the best Brazilian music album of all time.

Acabou chorare, ficou tudo lindo
De manhã cedinho
Tudo cá cá cá, na fé fé fé
No bu bu li li, no bu bu li lindo
No bu bu bolindo
No bu bu bolindo
Talvez pelo buraquinho
Invadiu-me a casa, me acordou na cama
Tomou o meu coração e sentou na minha mão
Talvez pelo buraquinho
Invadiu-me a casa, me acordou na cama
Tomou o meu coração e sentou na minha mão
Abelha, abelhinha
Acabou chorare, faz zunzum pra eu ver
Faz zunzum pra mim
Abelho, abelhinho escondido faz bonito
Faz zunzum e mel
Abelha, carneirinho
Acabou chorare no meio do mundo
Respirei eu fundo, foi-se tudo pra escanteio
Vi o sapo na lagoa, entre nessa que é boa
Fiz zunzum e pronto
Fiz zum zum e pronto
Fiz zum zum e pronto
Fiz zum zum
The lyrics of "Acabou Chorare" by Novos Baianos are quite poetic and open to interpretation, but the song seems to be celebrating the joy and beauty that can be found in life, even amidst trials and struggles. The words "Acabou Chorare" mean "No more crying" in Portuguese, and the song seems to be telling us to look on the bright side of things, and to find happiness wherever we can. The use of nonsensical syllables like "Tin gon tin gon gon gon guin" in the opening lines reinforces this sense of playfulness and spontaneity.
The middle section of the song seems to be about a dream or a surreal experience, with the singer talking about a bee that has invaded their home and taken over their heart. The use of animal imagery ("Abelha, abelhinha", or "bee, little bee") adds to the whimsical, dreamlike feeling of the song. The final section of the song brings everything back to reality, with the singer saying that they have taken a deep breath and decided to enjoy life despite its difficulties. The lyrics "Vi o sapo na lagoa, entre nessa que é boa" mean "I saw the toad in the pond, come join in, it's good" and seem to be an invitation to the listener to embrace life and join in the fun.
Overall, "Acabou Chorare" is a beautiful song that celebrates the joy of living and the power of finding happiness even in tough times. The use of playful language and dreamlike imagery creates a sense of whimsy and wonder that makes the song feel both deeply personal and universal.

Historiando sons
