Certainly a game that could only have existed back then ;)

Still one I happen to enjoy quite a bit though. Though it look a long time for me to finally get past that robot in the final scene though.

One thing - when you're on the missile sites, you can destroy the additional towers to earn extra lives. Something worth being prepared for before the final run :)

Great game. I haven't played it for years, but after watching you play the memories came flooding back. I was able to beat this game pretty regularly - the key as mentioned below is to catch those discs in that last stage. Once you get the hang of that it's really not too hard.

This was a game just made for magazine screenshots and that's how I first remember becoming aware of it - that awesome shot of earth with the missiles above it, the bazooka fight in Moscow and that hangar all made we want this game bad when I first saw those screens. Blew anything I had on my Intellivision out of the water!

That's right. For a 1984 game this was quite complex with many different stages.

Epic Legendary game! This I think is the first c64 game that I figured out without instrucitons and fully beat to the end. Bravo!

I remember loading this game manymany times and never could get out of the hangar. Then finally when the day happened I got out of the hangar and saw the rest of the game I was blown away.

Classic, classic game. Here in the states they released a three pack later in the 80s with this, Beach Head and Beach Head II...needless to say I played the crap out of that collection. Access was a really good developer back then.

Awesome game, but I remember I absolutely sucked at getting the planes out of the hanger at the beginning back in the day. After that it was pretty easy up until the 'discs of tron' clone stage. I don't remember if I ever beat this one or not, but I think I didn't because I was usually low on men due to crashing most of my planes by the end.

I had this on a compilation when I was a kid, but I could never figure out how to get out of the space station and didn't bother playing it again. I still remember the controversy this caused at the time though, which was the reason the name got changed to "Raid".

Being a history major, I've been thinking that it would be interesting to do a proper historical study about all the attention this game game got in Finland back in the day. Provided somebody hasn't done that already.

I remember they showed this game in a very serious tv show how evil and subverting games you can buy for home computers. Shooting up the state historical museum like that, tsk tsk.

This is the very first game on a Commmodore ,i remember the day i was in a computer shop and this was the demo game ,remember how i was looking there ,face almost on the glass and looked like a iditio that was about to start to drool hahaahah bless you mate ,excellent one,memories brought up,good game!!hope we talk soon as well!

Bruce Carver has made number of gems for C64, and it's a typical exploitation of the 80', with a new cold war after the election of Ronal Reagan and the return of the idea of a third world war.
This game has been criticized for that and, today, the games are not more violents, but the realism of the graphics give them a freakly cachet.

This game caused quite a big fuss when it came out in Finland too, as we were very close to the old Soviet Union back then.

lol Throwing discs at a robot. Its so random. Must have gotten that idea from Tron, but I doubt any armies practice throwing Frisbees. Must be some future tech. ;-) Looks like a fun game though. I don't remember playing it, but if I had it would probably have been too hard for me at the time.

Once you get out of the space hangar, the rest of the game is good fun. Specially that bazooka part was very entertaining as a kid.

The building you destroy in the second to last stage is not the Kremlin, it's... a museum. It's at (or near) red square, but really you just flew all the way to Moscow, messed up a bunch of stuff on the way just to fuck up their museum.
