Read Full Bio ↴OOMPH! is an industrial rock band from the neue deutsche härte scene.
OOMPH! consists of:
Robert Flux (guitar, mixing)
Andreas Crap (lead guitar, keyboards)
Leo (live drums)
Hagen (live bass)
Der Schulz (lead vocalist)
The band was formed in 1989 in Wolfsburg, Germany. They are one of the founders of the fusion of hard metal music and industrial sounds known as Neue Deutsche Härte.
OOMPH! owed a lot to Nitzer Ebb in their self-titled debut (1992). OOMPH!'s change of style for the successor "Sperm" (1994), with a more guitar-driven metal sound mixed with their electronic roots, inspired numerous musicians, most famously Rammstein, to follow their lead. (Rammstein have cited OOMPH! in several interviews as their main inspiration.)
OOMPH! released their first album on Jor's Machinery label, then releasing their consecutive albums on its sister-label Dynamica. They stayed with Jor, until his labels disappeared during the acquisition by Sanctuary Records at around 1996/1997.
Following Dynamica OOMPH! finally signed with Virgin Schallplatten. With the benefits of major-label status OOMPH! gained a larger following, and toured with labelmates Skunk Anansie in 1999. Between 1998 and 2001 they released three albums on the Virgin label, fulfilling their contract, but did not continue, feeling that the record company never fully explored their potential.
In 2004 OOMPH! released their first single "Augen auf!" on a new label, this time on Supersonic Records, part of the Sony BMG group of music companies. It marks their first Number One hit ever in Germany, thus eventually bringing forth their major commercial breakthrough. It became part of the FIFA 2005 soundtrack.
The band's ninth record, GlaubeLiebeTod was released in March 2006, including the controversial single "Gott ist ein Popstar" and its follow-up "Das letzte Streichholz", the third single was Die Schlinge.
In 2007, they won the third Bundesvision Song Contest (a contest between the sixteen states of Germany) for Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen) with "Träumst du?", which featured Marta Jandová from Die Happy.
While OOMPH! are not widely known within the United States, the band did perform at a New York festival in 1993. In Europe they have performed at M'era Luna, Ozzfest, Dynamo Open Air and Wacken Open Air.

Wird man dir zuhören
Und wenn sie taub sind
Dann lass sie spüren
Du stellst dich quer, machst Alarm, kämpfst für deine Vision
Was ist Schein, was ist nur Illusion
Du machst dich frei, denn du weißt sonst ist alles verloren
Du hast die Macht
Du hast die Macht
Du bist die Revolution
Gegen den Strom
Geh auf die Straße
Hol dir den Lohn
Du bist die Revolution
Gegen den Strom
Sing deine Lieder
Scheiß auf den Thron
Du bist die Revolution
Du machst nicht mit, denn die Welt scheint dir taub, stumm und blind
Lehnst dich auf, stellst dich gegen den Wind
Du fragst warum, schreist heraus, was dich lange schon quält
Du bist frei, das ist alles was zählt
Du hast die Macht
Du hast die Macht
Du bist die Revolution
Gegen den Strom
Geh auf die Straße
Hol dir den Lohn
Du bist die Revolution
Gegen den Strom
Sing deine Lieder
Scheiß auf den Thron
Du bist die Revolution
Du bist die Revolution
Gegen den Strom
Geh auf die Straße
Hol dir den Lohn
Du bist die Revolution
Gegen den Strom
Sing deine Lieder
Scheiß auf den Thron
Erst wenn du laut bist
Wird man dir zuhörn
Und wenn sie taub sind
Dann lass sie spürn
The song "Revolution" by Oomph! is an anthem of empowerment and resistance against the status quo. The lyrics encourage the listener to make some noise and stand up for their vision. The first verse states that only when you make a big noise will people start to listen to you, and if they are deaf to your cries, it's time to let them feel the consequences of their action. The second verse describes how the singer stands up against the world that seems deaf, dumb, and blind. They ask why things are the way they are and start rebelling against the wind, determined to make a difference. The chorus repeatedly tells the listener that they are the revolution against the stream and have the power to change things. They are encouraged to hit the streets and claim what is rightfully theirs, to sing their songs and not bow to the throne.
The lyrics of this song are a call to action, urging listeners to resist the complacency that often creeps in and fight for what they believe in. The revolutionary spirit is brought alive through powerful words and catchy riffs that inspire a sense of strength and determination. The lead singer's deep and heavy voice adds to the song's intensity and gives the lyrics an added sense of urgency. "Revolution" is more than just a song; it's a statement that speaks to anyone fighting for a cause, from political activists to simple truth-seekers.
Overall, "Revolution" by Oomph! Is a powerful song that encourages listeners to raise their voice and fight against the status quo. It is a reminder that one person can make a difference and that there is always hope for change. Oomph! created a masterpiece in this song, where the lyrics, melody, and voice create a perfect balance, urging the listener to go out and change the world.
