Origins
O Rappa got their start in 1993, when Jamaican reggae artist Papa Winnie arrived in Brazil for a series of show and needed a back up band to support him. Four people were immediately picked: Nelson Meirelles, a well-known Rio de Janeiro indie producer; Marcelo Lobato, former member of África Gumbe; Alexandre (Xandão) Menezes, a musician with African influences; and Marcelo Yuka, a prolific songwriter and member of KMD-5 at the time. After the shows with Winnie, the foursome decided to keep the band going and added a vocalist and fifth member, Marcelo Falcão, recruited through an ad in Rio’s main newspaper. In 1994, they released their first album, O Rappa, on the Warner label.
Tragedy
In 2001, Marcelo Lobato who was originally on keyboard had to take over drum duties after the band’s original drummer and main songwriter, Marcelo Yuka, was shot multiple times during a robbery near his house in Rio, which severely compromised movement in both his legs and one of his arms. Yuka has been the biggest contributor of the band's social projects for years, even after turning paralytic. He is currently working on other music projects such as F.Ur.T.O.

Meu Santo Tá Cansado
O Rappa Lyrics

Limpo, lavabo, brilha no céu mais bonito do espaço
Depois das águas de março
Meu santo tá cansado
The lyrics of O Rappa's song, Meu Santo Tá Cansado (My Saint Is Tired) is about the tiredness of the singer's saint or protector. He admits that he does not have an excess of balance in his life, and although he is not in debt, being a man has its own set of struggles. The line "uma lona de freio aqui, um motor fazendo um barulho ali" can be interpreted as things breaking down and needing repairs, which can be exhausting. He also confesses that he has not always been truthful. However, despite this, he still has his saint to protect him.
The singer then talks about how being "direito" or upright doesn't mean that he hasn't been cowardly at times. He has made mistakes and taken the wrong path. He compares himself to a football player who tries to score a goal but ends up losing the ball instead. He has worked hard all his life but sometimes life doesn't go according to plan. He mentions how sometimes things start off already losing, like a game that has already been decided before it begun.
The song then progresses into a more personal confession. The singer admits to having lied with his fingers crossed, but he doesn't want to be a hero or a fool. He stands up for himself and says that he's not going to bow down to anyone, and he's not in a rush to do so. He's not a drinker of holy water, but he's aware of the importance of prayer. He talks about his blood boiling and his blue sky shining through despite the hardships he's been through. This song is an acknowledgment of the challenges of life and a confession of past wrongdoings.
