Originally known as the Rain, the group initially consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals, tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam's older brother Noel (lead guitar, vocals) later joined as a fifth member, finalising the group's core lineup. During the course of their existence, they had various lineup changes, with the Gallagher brothers remaining the only staple members.

Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. It became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.

Oasis' popularity later declined and McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel Gallagher in August 2009.

As of 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

my father would always play this song in the car while we were driving. i used to call it “the longest song in the whole world”. i would say that line and he would play it. unfortunately, he died when i was nine years old. when he died my world was quite for a bit. but i’ve always found myself re-finding this song in different parts in my life when i need it most. i’m nineteen now, a whole decade later and i think he’s talking to me when i listen to it now. “someday you will find me, caught beneath the landslide in a champagne supernova in the sky” in some weird way, i think of this as some full circle moment, almost like he was preparing me , knowing i’d always have this song. i love you dad. thank you for always guiding me back to this song.

I remember being around 13 years old when this album first came out. I was flipping through the channel and I landed on MTV in the middle of this video and was absolutely spellbound. I had no idea who they were or what the song was but I was riveted. When it was over I was just dumbfounded. I spent the next few days watching MTV for hours trying to see if they would play it again. When they did it was glorious. I remembered the name and went out with my parents and bought the album. It's still one of the greatest albums of all time. I'll always love this gloriously epic song even after all these years.

1995, a university dance club in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. We were visiting a buddy going to school there. It was the night I ended up meeting my first wife. What I remember most vividly was the crowd of maybe 150 people standing inside waiting to get into the main area. All of us, every single person, were singing this song. All conversation and rabble stopped. It was amazing. These two brothers were everywhere.

My brother and his best friend were my heroes. They would play this in his car when I was were younger. My brother and I don't talk now, haven't talked in about 10 years. I hope he's okay. I'm grateful he introduced me to this. I'm grateful he was there for me. And I am sorry I couldn't be there for him when he needed it most. Same as his best friend when he was in hospital, I just couldn't bare seeing him so didn't go. He was the best athlete at our gynastic's squad. One night his dad came into the room I was sleeping in because I kept coughing, which I was doing because Josh told me his abs were so good because he coughed. He had cystic fibrosis. He is still my hero and I am also sorry I couldn't be there for him when he needed it. I hope this song was enough, as it's helped me through some of my darkest times.

My memory of this song, is with my fishing buddy, in our center console late at night, fishing for Walleye on the edge of the city of Kingston with the lights of the city silhouetted against the calm water. The breeze was non existant and it was early spring. The song takes me back to that point 1996 every time. I see him and me just....."talking". Everything was calm, serene and the beauty of the city at night painted a surreal picture as this song played in the background. I will take that to my grave with me. So beautiful.

1:25 that, right there. It’s gotta be the greatest intro’s to a song of all time, but because of what happened to them, they’re a forgotten band in many people’s heads that aren’t British. There was a good 10 years where I had completely forgotten about them and then hear Champagne Supernova on the radio. They were so huge for a short time and this is their exact peak, this song. I was 12 or 13 when this album was released so I still remember the influence they had… but I do also remember it was short lived, only a few years and then they had to go and say they’re either going to be big than the Beatles, or they already thought they had surpassed the Beatles lol. Even though atvm, you might be able to debate that, then I don’t think I’ve seen a bigger fall from sky, at such a fast pace in my entire life of music lol. It’s like fans everywhere were disgusted and offended that they could’ve ever held a candle to the Beatles. I’ll say at the pace they were going, they could’ve possibly had a good run at it. But that’s just like what happened with the Beatles and when John said they were bigger than Jesus, yet we all forgave him after that because of what would happen to him later in life. But the gen public didn’t forgive Oasis for their comment. But I think enough time has passed now and people have actually forgotten about and swept it under the rug by now because let’s be honest they had one of the highest selling albums of all time. 22 million copies sold. To give you a comparison to another high selling album a few years before that was Metallica’s Black album. That has sold 16 1/2 million copies atm. So that’s how big that album was; blows the Black album outta the water. Idk why I ranted so hardcore just now, lol, but whatever.

I was 9 months old when this song came out. It helped me get through the terrible two's. Years later, my father went to prison for abusing my mom and brother. When I visit him in prison, he always asks me to bring my iPod touch and play this song over the speaker. It reminds him and I of a simpler time. Back when we could play catch in the backyard and smell the fresh air. Now, hes serving his final year in prison and is set to be released in October. My mother and brother have not agreed to ever see him again but I would love for our family to be whole again. Ever since that day, it feels like everything in my life isn't right. I miss the way things used to be. I plan to invite them all over to my house to try and attempt reconciliation. Recently, I purchased a $1500 sound system and installed it in my living room. When they all see each other for the first time in decades, I will play this song on blast. God only knows if this masterpiece can't save my shattered family then nothing can. Thank you so much for this song. It has done more than you will ever know.
