Oblivion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Withering as flowers die
Spinning clocks, sands of time
The occupation of my mind
The persistence of this burning wheel
We wait for open sores to heal
Contending with the hyperreal
The gods beckon us to kneel
To master the art of the stare
A thousand yards to nowhere
To no applause, no fanfare
Confronted by my true form
The violent unrelenting storm
Naively I underestimate
This dominant white hot hate
Setting off on another road
Braced for another episode
Question hope and moral code
To your dead soul we sing an ode
Awakening with a start
The skies darken with your heart
I never claimed to be smart
Disappointment is my one true art
Sinking to the depths of hell
Another wish thrown in a well
Rain, rain, go away
Come back again another day
Rain, rain, don’t go away
Tell me that you’re here to stay
The lyrics of Oblivion's song "1000" explore themes of decay, the passage of time, inner struggles, and the acceptance of disappointment. The first paragraph sets the tone by describing life decaying as days pass, just like flowers withering away. The mention of spinning clocks and sands of time reflects the constant ticking away of life, which occupies the singer's mind. It hints at a feeling of restlessness and the desire for resolution.
The second paragraph delves into the persistence of suffering and the longing for healing. The line "We wait for open sores to heal" suggests that the singer is in a state of anticipation, hoping for wounds to be healed. The mention of contending with the hyperreal alludes to an overwhelming sense of reality and the gods beckoning the singer to kneel implies a struggle with external forces.
Moving into the third paragraph, the lyrics portray a confrontation with a true form and a violent storm. This could symbolize a personal reckoning, facing one's inner turmoil or a turbulent episode in life. The reference to underestimating dominant hate suggests that the singer may have underestimated the power of negative emotions or challenges. The imagery of embarking on another road and questioning hope and moral code reflects the singer's uncertainty and doubt.
The final paragraph portrays a sense of awakening and darkness with the mention of skies darkening with the heart. The singer expresses a self-deprecating tone by admitting to not claiming to be smart and disappointment being their true art. Sinking to the depths of hell and throwing wishes in a well conveys a sense of despair and resignation. The repetition of "Rain, rain, go away" and "Rain, rain, don't go away" reflects a longing for change and stability, while acknowledging the uncertainty and impermanence of life.
Overall, the lyrics of "1000" delve into themes of decay, the passage of time, inner struggles, and the acceptance of disappointment. The song conveys a sense of restlessness, anticipation, and uncertainty, while exploring the complexities of emotions and the search for resolution.

There's a strange comfiness to Oblivion, especially in towns. Maybe it's Jeremy Soule's music, maybe it's the sort of crusty PS360 aesthetic, maybe it's the janky radiant AI with their repetitive conversations, but it's just cozy.
@ThatsCoolDude
Agreed!
@HealerType0079
Why not all of it together?
Also nice pic.
@Thoregor
Morrowind is too foreign and strange, Skyrim is too post-apocalyptic and rugged. TES4's Cyrodiil is just where life is good for everyone.
@Supperdude9
Everyone is kinda chill despite the literal portals to hell opening up outside every major city.
@Accelerate55
@Supperdude9 Do you think what happened in Kvatch could happen here too?
