Later he went to Guayaquil where participating in the radio program "The Supreme Court of Art" began his career that led him to become a popular singer in the 50s.
In 1951, he traveled to Colombia with Plutarch Uquillas Pepe Jaramillo and integrating the "Trío Emperor." When the trio broke up, he settled permanently in Colombia where he developed into the most important stage of his career. His popularity transcended borders not only from Ecuador and Colombia, reaching Mexico where he recorded several albums and broke sales records with the bolero "Tears of Love." Then came other hits like Playita Mía, Tu Duda and mine, Our Pledge, fate, Five Centavitos, Licor Bendito and many more that would be interpreted by Julio Jaramillo.
In the seventies, in Colombia, would record several items next to Julio Jaramillo
Olimpo Cardenas remained active in singing popular until the July 28, 1991 death caught him in the town of Tulua, in Colombia, while serving in a public square.
Pesimismo
Olimpo Cárdenas Lyrics

Y nunca a de ser mio
A la mujer ingrata
Que no me supo amar
Las bocas ya besadas
Me producen hastío
Y pronto olvido el sueño
Que logré realizar
Insatisfecho y triste
Me repudia la vida
A veces siento un íntimo
Deseo de morir
Mi juventud se siente
Desgraciada y perdida
Y en medio de la senda
Me resigna a seguir
Llevo enfermo el espíritu
De un hondo pesimismo
El pesimismo amargo
Que deja el desamor
Desconfío de todo
No creo ni en mi mismo
Y olvidó mis sonaces
Por llorar mi dolor
Alguien hay que dice
Que exajero mi pena
Que no es como yo creo
Tan estéril mi afán
Que sus piadosos ojos
Con claridad serena
Indagan en los míos
Lo que nunca sabrán
In the song "Pesimismo," Olimpo Cardenas expresses his feeling of dissatisfaction and pessimism towards life. He talks about his love for something that is out of his reach, his sense of rejection from an ungrateful woman who didn't cherish his love, and his disgust with the lips that have been kissed before. He also mentions that he forgets his achievements quickly, and his youth feels unhappy and hopeless. He speaks of his deep desire to die but resigns to continue living life as it is.
Cardenas continues to express his pessimistic view of life by saying that his spirit is deeply sick, affected by the bitterness of unrequited love, which results in him doubting everything and losing faith in himself. He forgets his joyous moments and instead continuously cries in sorrow. He feels misunderstood by others who underestimate the intensity of his pain and assume he exaggerates.
