Don't ask of me baby
What you know
I ain't willing to give
I'm done with your type of madness
I'm sick of all of your shit
Walk on
Walk alone darling
Im sending you out in the cold
c taste what you have given
I'm taking it back
Yeah I'm taking back my soul
Don't call out my name
Don't call out my name
Don't call out my name
I'm not giving you nothing
Cause nothing is something
You know
Its what you deserve
Don't look to me baby
I Don't want
You under my skin
The hate your lips are spreading
Your evils wearing me thin
Walk on
Walk clone daring
I'm Free from your bitter eyes
No you won't see me there waiting
I'm taking it back
Yeah I'm taking back my life
Don't call out my name
Don't call out my name
Don't call out my name
I'm not giving you nothing
Cause nothing is something
You know
Its what you deserve
The lyrics of "Call Your Name" by Oliver and Company convey a strong sense of empowerment and liberation from a toxic relationship. The singer is addressing their former partner, asserting their independence and refusal to be manipulated any longer.
The first paragraph captures the singer's defiance and unwillingness to comply with their partner's demands. They declare that they are not willing to give what their partner is asking for and express their frustration with the type of madness and the negative behavior that their partner has displayed. It indicates a turning point where the singer has decided to stand up for themselves and break free.
In the second paragraph, the singer emphasizes their determination to move forward alone. They send their partner out into the cold, wanting them to experience the consequences of their actions. The phrase "taste what you have given" suggests that the partner will now understand the impact of their behavior. The singer takes back their own agency and soul, reclaiming control over their own life.
The repetition of the phrase "Don't call out my name" throughout the song reinforces the singer's strong resolve to distance themselves from their former partner. They want nothing to do with them and believe that their former partner deserves nothing. The use of the word "nothing" highlights how the singer perceives their partner's actions as insignificant and undeserving of any attention or consideration.
The final paragraph further emphasizes the singer's desire to remove their former partner from their life. They express their aversion to having their partner under their skin and being affected by the negativity they bring. The singer emphasizes their freedom from their partner's influence and declares that they won't be waiting for them any longer. It is a final assertion of the singer's strength and determination to reclaim their own life from the toxic relationship.
Overall, the lyrics of "Call Your Name" convey a sense of empowerment, resilience, and the refusal to continue in a detrimental relationship. The singer has reached a breaking point and is reclaiming their own identity and autonomy.

I think I know why. It's a musical adaptation of a story that has already been made into a huge award winning musical (the film adaptation even won the Oscar for best picture). Had it been made first, it may be a different story
