Old Man Tree
Omnia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I met a man who was a tree
Did I see him or he see me?
Standing there majestically
Tree and me...

The smell of sun on autumn leaves
He said take good care of all you see
Praise the earth down on your knees
That's what the old man sang to me

He sang
Heya Heya Heya
Heya Heya heya
Hey Hey Heya Heya
Heya Hey

Life left you a broken boy, man
To fight the war an angry young man
Now it's time to be a shaman
Take these wings and learn to fly man

I lost my grip and took a trip
On a magic mushroom rocket ship
Rode the waves and didn't flip
The rainbow-flavoured astral trip

Heya Heya Heya
Heya Heya heya
Hey Hey Heya Heya
Heya Hey

The words they flow like melody
Through gnarly old man/tree and me
From root to bone from him to me
Just like the river to the sea
Now I am he as tree is me
And I'm not here and so is he
'Cause in my mind I'm always free
Just like tree that sang to me

Heya Heya Heya
Heya Heya heya
Hey Hey Heya Heya
Heya Hey

The first shall never be the last
There is no future and no past
Put brother Flame to sister Grass
Let's celebrate the Pagan mass

Heya Heya Heya
Heya Heya heya
Hey Hey Heya Heya
Heya Hey

The words they flow like melody
Through gnarly old man/tree and me
From root to bone from him to me
Just like the river to the sea
Now I am he as tree is me
And I'm not here and so is he
'Cause in my mind I'm always free
Just like tree that sang to me

Heya Heya Heya
Heya Heya heya

Hey Hey Heya Heya
Heya Hey

Overall Meaning

The song “Old Man Tree” by Omnia tells the story of the encounter between the singer and a tree that seems to be alive and sentient. The lyrics suggest that the man may have entered a state of altered consciousness, perhaps through the use of psychedelic mushrooms, as he describes taking a trip on a “magic mushroom rocket ship” and experiencing a “rainbow-flavored astral trip”. During this experience, the tree speaks to him and imparts wisdom about the importance of taking care of the earth and living in harmony with nature.

The encounter with the tree seems to have significant spiritual meaning for the singer, as he speaks of becoming one with the tree and feeling free in his mind like the tree that “sang” to him. The lyrics also touch on themes of the cyclical nature of life, the interconnectedness of all living beings, and the importance of celebrating the natural world.

Overall, the song conveys a message of reverence for nature and suggests that connecting with the natural world can be a transformative experience that allows us to gain insight and wisdom.

This song is so stunningly beautiful. I haven't been able to get out in nature anywhere near enough lately after having broken an ankle and having caring responsibilities during the pandemic. This song makes me cry for that connection. Thank you for such a beautiful song <3

Blessed Be, young lady. I hope your journey is wonderful. It won't always be easy, but it will certainly be worth it. I've been Pagan since I was about your age, too, well before these folks came along!

Don't think I know a band who are as pagan as these guys. Credit to Stenny and Omnia for having the balls to just be who they are and not follow rules if they don't want to. They are very inspiring, and nice people too.

Can't listen to this Version without tears. Goosebumps all over and my heart races. I love it.

Omnia thank you! I am a 15 year-old girl that knew nothing about Paganism 1 year ago. But then I listened to your music and travelled with you. I heard the voice of Mother Nature because you taught me to do it. I wish one day I can come to the Netherlands and watch you perform. Blessed be dear Omnia!
