Crooked Spoons
Otep Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take me down
With there baptized drown
So they say!

Let's make my world

So they say
I killed a man
So they say
I took his head
So they say
He was discouraged
In all the world

Take you to the
Outer helm
Madness sound

Crooked spoons are every war
Genocide
Teenage needles
Everywhere

[Chorus x2]
Why?
You need
You've taken everything

Let's make my world

Let them sleep
I need some more
Nooses made from human hair
Bodies falling from the air

Preach true
This is it
We're through with you
Columbine

Crooked spoons are every war
Genocide
Teenage needles
Everywhere

[Chorus x2]

Where the baptized drown

I sleep to deep
For you to wake me
I sleep to deep
For you to wake me
I sleep to deep
For you to wake me

My wrists are kissed
Tarnished

[Chorus x2]

The from your little tiny
Shiny in your eyes
In my veins shallow
A lone incarcerated soul

I sleep too deep
You to wake me up

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Otep's song Crooked Spoons contain dark and disturbing themes of violence, madness, and death. The opening lines, "take me down with their baptized drown," suggest a desire for someone to be deliberately drowned in a baptismal ceremony, perhaps indicating a rejection of religious beliefs. The following lines, "let's make my world," are repeated throughout the song, possibly suggesting a desire for control and power.

The verses contain brutal and graphic descriptions of violence, with the singer proclaiming to have killed a man and taken his head. The lines "crooked spoons are every war, genocide, teenage needles everywhere" suggest a world filled with chaos and destruction. The chorus repeats the question "why?" and accuses someone of taking everything, possibly referring to a sense of betrayal or loss.

The song's references to "Columbine" and "teenage needles" suggest a commentary on the effects of societal alienation and violence. The repetition of the phrase "I sleep too deep for you to wake me up" creates a sense of numbness and detachment from reality.

Overall, Crooked Spoons is a disturbing and intense song that explores themes of violence, madness, and societal decay.

This whole album was so beautifully done and will forever be a great piece of art as a whole.

@jsange

"Why is metal music so violent and dark" because life is violent and dark, welcome to reality.

@jtheoriginal9775

😂😂😂 listen to CANNIBAL CORPSE dude. They're dark. Otep is far from soft but read some cannibal corpse lyrics.... then you'll have a hint of my mentality

No Fukn doubt keeps me sane

@timlang7214

No Fukn doubt 😖

@woj8926

Carnival corpse I feel is over the top for the sake of it. It's sort of like human centipede - yeah the shock value is there but no substance. Otep writes meaningful dark lyrics

@felipericardosilva9943
