Kunek was a genre smoothie. Toss some indie, folk, post-rock, and ambient in a blender and set to awesome. In August 2008, Kunek announced via their Myspace that Kunek will live on only through their fantastic but lone album, Flight of the Flynns. Five members of Kunek have transferred to a new band under the Other Lives moniker. The debut album from the Stillwater, Oklahoma band is finished as of August 2008, produced by Joey Waronker (Beck, REM) and will be released via TBD records (Radiohead, Underworld). It Was the Night
Other Lives Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You were so gone, when they found you
It was the hour that you had come back
You were so gone
All of the reasons we're not meant to know
Let the wind sweep over you
And hear the sound that's calling you
We'll find you, we know that you're there
It was the night that you had left us
You were so gone when we found you
All of the years you can now put behind you
Let the wind sweep over you
And hear the sound that's calling you
To come back
We'll find you, we know that you're there
The lyrics of Other Lives's song "It Was the Night" express the pain and longing of losing someone who has left unexpectedly. The song reflects a deep sense of sorrow and confusion, as the singer struggles to come to terms with the sudden disappearance of their loved one. The first verse speaks to the moment of loss, as the singer recalls the night that the person left and the feeling of emptiness that followed. The lines "You were so gone, when they found you / It was the hour that you had come back / You were so gone / All of the reasons we're not meant to know" convey a sense of bewilderment and helplessness.
The chorus, "Let the wind sweep over you / And hear the sound that's calling you / To come back / We'll find you, we know that you're there" suggests a willingness to move forward while also recognizing the need to hold on to the memory of the lost person. The wind is a recurring motif in the song, perhaps symbolizing both the passage of time and a connection to the natural cycles of life and death.
Overall, "It Was the Night" is a haunting and emotional song that captures the grief and confusion of losing someone suddenly. It is a poignant reflection on both the universal experience of loss and the unique circumstances that surround each individual loss.
